Arsenal are just over 48 hours away from two major events kicking off that will undoubtedly impact Mikel Arteta and Edu. With the European championships set to begin on Friday evening when Scotland take on Germany, the opening of the summer transfer window has been somewhat forgotten about.

Though links and agreements for numerous players have emerged, actual transfers being announced has been scarce. Tosin Adarabioyo has seen his move to Chelsea officially made public after leaving Fulham but other deals, such as Joao Palhinha's move to Bayern Munich, are still in the works.

RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko looked to be at the centre of one of those with his final transfer decision being communicated on Tuesday. Douglas Luiz is another in talks to seal an exit from Aston Villa with the Gunners interested in signing both of those players.

With that in mind, football.london has taken a close look at the latest rumours surrounding the respective futures of Luiz and Sesko.

Sesko to stay at Leipzig

Despite interest in activating his £55million release clause from Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United, Sesko has opted to continue his development in Germany and sign a new contract at RB Leipzig.

Last month, it was revealed his current club had made contact with an extension offer and that looks to be the avenue he has taken. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, his new deal will be officially confirmed on Wednesday.

football.london says: "In all honesty, Sesko has probably made the right decision to stay in Germany. As Nicolas Jackson and Rasmus Hojlund can attest to, the pressure of the Premier League is very high. Remaining in an environment that he knows is certainly the best scenario for the 21-year-old with plenty of time for a move elsewhere.

"Though it must be said, choosing Emirates Stadium as his destination would have likely been the best option. However, considering how they have improved in recent years, making an immediate impact would have been important.

"Despite Sesko signing a new contract, that will not spell the end of Arsenal's interest especially with reports a gentleman's agreement is in place."

Luiz in advanced talks with Juventus

Arsenal could be at risk of losing long-term transfer target Douglas Luiz to Juventus.

According to Sky Sports, the Aston Villa midfielder is in 'advanced talks' to join the Italian club with negotiations also ongoing that would see Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior head to Villa Park in a separate deal. An announcement confirming the deal is thought to be close.

football.london says: "Luiz is one of many Arsenal midfield transfer targets, though interest from north London appears to have died down.

"With Villa's stance on selling Luiz now very clear, it is absolutely worth the Gunners trying to hijack the deal. However, the Midlands club are far more likely to sell their key midfielder abroad as opposed to letting him join a direct Premier League rival.

"Arsenal know that Villa have to sell in order to comply with PSR and thus making contact could be worthwhile. Arteta also does not have the worry of Luiz being occupied elsewhere starting in just a few days with the Copa America not due to commence until Friday, June 2024."
