Arsenal once again kick off the new Premier League season with a London derby away at Crystal Palace on the evening of Friday, August 5 as Mikel Arteta aims to go one better than last campaign and finish in the top four.

The Gunners had a return to the Champions League - their first in six years - in their hands until a humbling defeat to Tottenham followed by losing at Newcastle saw Spurs leapfrog them and snatch fourth. Arsenal face their first rematch with Spurs on October 1 at the Emirates, which is followed by the visits of Liverpool and Manchester City with Leeds in between, with the reverse derby fixture on January 14.

It’s a reasonable start to the season for the Gunners, with that opening day trip to Selhurst Park followed by a home match against Leicester, trip to newly-promoted Bournemouth, visit of fellow newcomers Fulham and a clash with Aston Villa.

Their first major showdown of the 2022/23 campaign comes against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 3.

The final match ahead of the World Cup in November is away at Wolves. The festive period brings another London derby with West Ham on Boxing Day, followed by meetings with Brighton and Newcastle. They finish the season at home to Wolves on May 28.

Arteta is expected to be backed in the transfer market once again to prevent a repeat scenario of last season, and young Brazilian talent Marquinhos arrived as the Gunners’ first summer signing earlier this week.
