Arsenal forced into January transfer window rethink after Gabriel Jesus injury

Arsenal could be forced into the transfer market amid fears Gabriel Jesus will be out for three months.

Jesus had knee surgery in London yesterday after he was hurt playing for Brazil against Cameroon at the World Cup.

Top-of-the-table Arsenal are reluctant to put a timescale on Jesus’s recovery, but Eddie Nketiah is their only other striker.

The club are ready to back Mikel Arteta in the transfer window and, though the priority before Jesus’s injury was a wide forward, they could target a striker as well.

Prior to moving for Jesus last summer, Arsenal scouted several forwards including Lille’s Jonathan David and Joao Felix, of Atletico Madrid.

A possible solution could be to sign a player who can play both out wide and through the middle, with David and Felix ticking those boxes.

Arsenal showed in the summer they are ready to act if injuries hit their squad.

Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey both got injured in August, with Arsenal trying but failing to bring in a midfielder by bidding for Douglas Luiz.
