Arsenal have reportedly identified Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder Ibrahima Bamba as a transfer target for the future, and are keeping tabs on him.
The Gunners have been one of the most improved Premier League sides over the past few seasons. Mikel Arteta’s side finished eighth two years on the trot not too long ago.
Last season, there was a clear improvement. Arteta’s side managed a fifth-placed finish, after battling for a top-four spot for a good portion of the season.
That was a big improvement from how they started the campaign. Indeed, Arsenal lost each of their first three league games, shipping nine goals in that period.
From then to now, there has been a massive upturn in form. After their fifth-placed finish last season, they have been in much better form this campaign.
Before the current week of fixtures, they were two points above Manchester City. The Gunners have also lost just one league game so far this season.
A lot of the good performances can be attributed to the signings that have been made. Ahead of last season, Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White were some of the biggest additions.
This summer, Gabriel Jesus was the marquee signing, and he has had a massive impact this season, contributing to 12 goals in all competitions.
Ibrahima Bamba transfer possible
It is important for managers to keep adding to their teams to stay ahead of the curve. The more players that come in, the better chance there is of some succeeding.
Arsenal have recently been linked with a new midfield signing that could help with that.
The Mirror reports that Arteta’s side have their eye on Vitoria midfielder Ibrahima Bamba.
Arsenal are reportedly one of a few sides that are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old. There have also been a few Premier League sides send scouts to watch him.
While there are some other names in the hat regarding interest, the Gunners apparently want to be ‘kept abreast’ of any developments regarding a potential transfer.
Bamba would cost whoever was to sign him in the region of £26.5million. A transfer, though, is not expected as early as January in any case.
New snare could be missing piece of puzzle
Arsenal’s midfield have, for the most part, been in top form all season. Martin Odegaard’s influence in every area is clear to see, hence why he was named captain.
Granit Xhaka has completed one of the biggest turnarounds possible. The midfielder has come back from the fringes to be a fan favourite again after being booed off the pitch a few seasons ago.
He is one goal shy of the club’s top goalscorers, with four goals – equal to the highest season tally of his career.
Of Arsenal’s usual midfield trio, Thomas Partey has played the least. The Ghanaian has still been a useful member of the side, having scored twice already.
Still, adding another member to that midfield could up the quality across the board. Bamba has payed just 20 league games so far, so it is too early to say whether he would be a great addition.
However, he has not been scouted by multiple Premier League sides for no reason. He could follow the path of many footballers from Portugal to England in recent years.
