Arsenal could incur a whopping £20m loss on Lucas Torreira after the Uruguayan gave the green light to Galatasaray, though he may inadvertently scupper a Chelsea plan in the process, per reports.

Torreira, 26, arrived in north London for around £26m in 2018. The midfield battler was seen as the perfect candidate to add steel and bite to an area that had been considered weak in years prior.

However, Torreira failed to live up to the billing and four years on, now appears destined to join Turkish giant Galatasaray.

The Sun previously reported Galatasaray had offered around £6m to sign Torreira who only has one year left on his Arsenal contract.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano later tweeted Arsenal were ready to accept the proposal, though a complication emerged.

Reports from Italy where Torreira has played the bulk of his professional career claimed he instead preferred to join Valencia.

In that scenario, TuttoMercatoWeb stated Galatasaray would then turn their attention to Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko if snubbed by Torreira.

Bakayoko is half way through a two-year loan stint at AC Milan. However, the Italian report stated Milan may be looking for a way out given the deal contains an obligation to buy next summer. By all accounts, Bakayoko isn’t enjoying the best of times in Italy.

Bakayoko’s loan stint will be turned permanent if he makes 15 appearances next year. Given he seemingly has no future at Chelsea, that would’ve been music to the ears of the Blues.

Torreira gives green light

However, there is now little chance of Bakayoko moving to Turkey after Romano reported Torreira has said yes to Galatasaray.

The trusted journalist tweeted Torreira has ‘accepted’ the move to Galatasaray and will fly to Istanbul in the coming days.

The final details of the contract still require attention, but all the signs point towards a permanent parting of ways from Arsenal.

Romano reaffirmed the Gunners will receive around £5m-£6m for the midfielder – a loss of at least £20m. However, given his contract was due to expire in 12 months’ time, any return is better than none.

Who else could leave Arsenal?

The Gunners have made headlines for their arrivals this summer, though are now getting their house in order regarding the exits.

Bernd Leno left for Fulham earlier this week and Torreira looks the next fringe player to fall.

A third exit could quickly follow in the form of Pablo Mari.

Italian pair Monza and Verona are both monitoring the 28-year-old centre-half. In fact, Romano recently tweeted Monza have submitted a loan offer with an obligation to buy. If accepted, the clause would be activated if Monza avoid relegation next season.

Given William Saliba is primed and ready to make a big impact in north London this season, Mari is now surplus to requirements.
