According to reports, Arsenal are ‘expected to formally approach’ Leeds United over the possibility of signing their winger Raphinha this summer.
The Brazil international made the move to Leeds in 2020 ahead of their return to the Premier League. He joined them for around £17m.
Raphinha has been a standout performer for Leeds over the past couple of seasons. He grabbed eleven goals and three assists in the league to help Jesse Marsch’s side avoid relegation.
FC Barcelona have been heavily linked with him in recent months. With them struggling to meet Leeds’ reported £50m asking price, Arsenal have joined the race to sign Raphinha.
Sky Sports are reporting that the Gunners ‘are interested’ in the attacker. They are ‘expected to formally approach Leeds United’ about signing Raphinha.
The player has two years remaining on his contract at Leeds but he is ‘not expected to sign a new deal’.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have completed the signing of Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira for a fee in the region of £34m, the Premier League outfit have announced.
The 22-year-old progressed through the ranks at Porto and he made 27 appearances during last season’s Primeira Liga title victory.
Vieira makes the move to Arsenal for a fee that could rise to around £34m (€40m) with add-ons.
Arsenal say the Portugal Under-21 international has signed a “long-term contract” at the Emirates Stadium, with the transfer subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
“I’m thrilled, of course,” Vieira said of the move. “This is an important step forward in my career.
“Arsenal is a huge and historic club, so I’m delighted to be here at my new home,” Vieira said.
“I feel it’s the right move in my career. I think it will be really good for me and I have no regrets about it. I’m thrilled to be here.”
Vieira becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the summer, having last week completed the acquisition of 19-year-old Brazilian forward Marquinhos from Sao Paulo. Vieira will wear the number 21 shirt in north London.
