Arsenal learn unwanted Neto debut blow after transfer agreement reached with Bournemouth
Arsenal are set to complete their summer transfer business with the loan signing of AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto after deciding against the permanent move of Joan Garcia.
The Brazilian will come in as the Gunners' number two after Aaron Ramsdale left the club for Southampton. The England international banked the north Londoners £18million with a further £7m that could be earned in add-ons.
Neto will be second choice goalkeeper behind David Raya at the Emirates Stadium for the 2024/25 season. The Spaniard joined permanently from Brentford earlier this summer after impressing on loan last season.
It's expected that Neto will be used when needed by Mikel Arteta, with cup games likely to be his chance to play. However, the former Barcelona shot-stopper will not be able to play in the Carabao Cup.
On Wednesday night, the 35-year-old played and captained Bournemouth in the 1-0 second round defeat to West Ham United. Rules in the domestic cup mean a player can't feature for another club after making an appearance.
It means that next month's third round tie with Bolton Wanderers will see either Raya or summer signing Tommy Setford start. For FA Cup games, Neto will be available to play.

Neto moved to the Premier League from Barcelona in 2022 and has gone on to make 61 league appearances under a number of Cherries managers. The loan arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea has however meant he is expected to be pushed into the number two role.
The 35-year-old’s loan has no option nor obligatory purchase clause meaning Arsenal could return for Garcia next summer - the Brazilian's wages will be covered by the North London side.
