Just as Arsenal confirmed 19 players were being released at the club, Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp's son Mitchel was let go by Bromley and is now a free agent.

The Dutchman's son, 25, only made one appearance for the fifth division team this season. He had been at the club since the 2023 January transfer window, but had only made two appearances since February last year.

He was finally released after the club opted not to give him a new contract alongside 10 other players. Bergkamp has previously expressed his fear that his son may have to work even harder to prove himself as a result of his famous name.

Whether his father's legendary career has made things harder or not, Mitchel will be on the lookout for a new club this summer. And he will not be the only footballer looking for their next challenge as the Gunners are having a huge exodus of their own.

The north Londoners are allowing 19 players, including long-term servants Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares, to depart the Emirates Stadium for nothing. The massive exodus is a sign of how Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu are trying to reshape the Gunners.

Meanwhile for Mitchel, who only scored one goal over the course of his 18 months with Bromley, hopes of a solid career in football like his dad are disappearing. A combination of injuries and inconsistent form saw him struggle for game-time at the club.

In a previous interview, Bergkamp senior admitted his son may have to "do more than others" to try and win coaches over. He said: “I would never say you have to play Mitchel because I'm Dennis Bergkamp. In many ways, though, he has had to do more than the other players. It has made him stronger.”

Mitchel's football career started with Dutch side Almere City FC. He would depart the club as a free agent in 2020 and find himself with Watford U21s in February 2021.

However, his time with the Hornets was short lived and he would go on to find himself in the wilderness again five months later. Bromley took a chance on the youngster the following summer, signing him on a free transfer.

Once again, Mitchel finds himself in the wilderness of free agency. He will be competing with many players from his father's old club.

Elneny and Soares are the biggest names to depart the club, but the likes of Arthur Okonkwo, who was on loan at Wrexham, will also be looking for a new club.
