Arsenal appear to have already drawn up a plan for the January transfer window. The Gunners lured some big names to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, tying David Raya down to a long-term contract before signing Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino.

Then, on deadline day, Arsenal wrapped up a pair of loan deals for Neto and Raheem Sterling. The north Londoners may have welcomed a few new faces to London Colney, but Mikel Arteta already seems eager to further bolster his squad in order to sustain a title bid.

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal and Liverpool will monitor the performances of Viktor Tsygankov and Miguel Gutierrez when Girona face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The report states that the duo caught Arteta's eye following their impressive displays in La Liga last season.

Tsygankov and Gutierrez played crucial roles for Michel's side as Girona finished third ahead of Atletico Madrid. CaughtOffside add that the club would be open to selling the Ukrainian winger and the Spanish left-back if the 'right offers' came in during the January transfer window.

It's said that Girona would expect at least a combined €70m (£59m) for the two players. Since signing a new three-year contract at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month, Arteta appears to have been given a new lease of life as he takes the club into a new era.

"I feel extremely proud, very excited and am looking forward to what is coming next," the Spanaird told the club website. "I’m proud to be where I am and have the relationships that I have with everyone at the club.

"I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here. I feel very inspired, I feel challenged, I feel supported and I want to do much more than what we’ve already done together.

"Together with the players and everyone at the club, we are looking forward to the coming years, with our supporters, who have emotionally transformed the club and the team.

"Our supporters have transformed individuals and we are different now. You can tell that we are different and for me, that is down to them. We look forward to continuing the journey together."

Edu insisted that Arteta's new deal arms the club with stability and a clear direction – which could prove to be a major leverage in the upcoming transfer window. The Gunners' sporting director said: "We are really happy that Mikel has signed a new long-term contract.

"It’s a very positive and proud moment for everyone at the club and an important part of what we’re all working towards. Mikel has shown his qualities since the very first day he joined us, not only as a football manager, but as a person with wonderful values.

"We have a strong belief in what we are doing and what we want to achieve together. Mikel’s new contract gives us stability and clear direction as we aim for new heights."
