Fiorentina are struggling to agree a deal to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to the player’s agent.

A £12.5million purchase clause looked ready to be enacted by the Serie A club after a positive loan spell for the Uruguayan, who has one year left on his contract in north London.

But reports in Italy suggest Fiorentina are hoping to make savings on the transfer fee or the £45,000 weekly wage Torreira was set to earn as a permanent member of the squad.

Pablo Bentancur, his agent, admitted to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: “The chances of Lucas staying in Florence are very small - even if it's not over yet.”

For now, Torreira is not opening talks with other clubs while back home in Fray Bentos with Fiorentina’s purchase clause expiring on May 31.

In a later chat with CalcioNapoli24, Bentancur added: “The issue between him and the Viola is a contractual problem, it won’t take much to clarify with Fiorentina and my priority is to find an agreement with them.

“For now, he is not thinking about other teams because he is very happy in Florence and is loved by the fans. The problem is only contractual, [agent] commissions have nothing to do with it.”
