Arsenal and Manchester United have been sent a warning about Joao Felix amid their ongoing attempts to sign the Atletico Madrid and Portugal attacker.

Felix is attracting interest from the Premier League with Arsenal and Man Utd reportedly leading the race to sign him.

Aston Villa were initially linked with the forward but the two Premier League high-flyers are now battling it out to sign the Portugal international.

The 23-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica in 2019 in a deal worth around £113m.

Felix has fallen down the pecking order this term amid the Spanish side’s tough start to the 2022/23 campaign.

Diego Simeone’s men sit fifth in La Liga and they also finished bottom of their Champions League group to exit Europe for the season.

The forward is believed to have had a fallout with Simeone, who is ready to let him leave this month.

Felix’s reputation was boosted by his performances at the World Cup. He grabbed a goal and two assists as Portugal reached the quarter-finals.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen in attacking areas as they attempt to put in a sustained Premier League title challenge.

Man Utd meanwhile are keen to recruit in that area of the pitch following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit.

A deal for Felix is going to be expensive, though. It was recently reported that Atletico Madrid are demanding £9.5m being paid as a loan fee. They also want a commitment to buy the forward for £70.5m at the end of the season.

Now European Football journalist Andy Brassell has warned Arsenal and Man Utd that Felix “backs down to absolutely no one”.

“A good point to make here is what sort of personality he is,” Brassell told talkSPORT.

“I think that’s sometimes missed by people who don’t watch him on a regular basis, don’t see the way he is on the pitch and the way he behaves off it.

“He’s by no means a celebrity piece of work, he’s fairly humble I think it’s fair to say.

“On the other hand, he’s someone who backs down to absolutely no one, and by no one, I mean not even Diego Simeone.

“Let’s be fair, Diego Simeone has crushed the spirit of some fairly big players before and got them to do exactly what he wants or just got rid of them.

“Where as this is a very, very different case.”

The Red Devils are said to face a similar issue with striker target Wout Weghorst.

At Burnley, ‘he clashed with team-mates due to his self-confidence, which some took as bordering on arrogance’ but Man Utd are ‘not concerned’ by this.
