Arsenal not amused by Shakhtar in Mudryk transfer battle amid Chelsea interference, with winger pressing for move
Arsenal remain confident about the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk, but are unhappy with Shakhtar Donetsk for bringing Chelsea into the equation, TEAMtalk has been told.
Mudryk has been on Arsenal’s radar for plenty of time leading up to the January transfer window. Now the market is open, they have a chance of bringing the Ukraine international to the Premier League.
The 22-year-old could add to their table-topping squad and would be an exciting prospect for them to work with after scoring 10 goals in 18 games so far this season.
However, in recent days, a significant problem has arisen. Despite Mudryk being keen on the move to Arsenal, their London rivals Chelsea have started to interfere.
In fact, reports have suggested that Chelsea are ready to make a bid for the Shakhtar star, which may surpass what Arsenal could put on the table.
Other sources, though, have relayed an optimism that Arsenal can still win the race for Mudryk.
And TEAMtalk understands that Arsenal do indeed remain confident about their pursuit of the right-footed left winger.
Our transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told us that although Arsenal are somewhat annoyed at Shakhtar for talking to Chelsea, they still hope they can match Mudryk’s wish of moving to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal ‘remain confident’ for Mudryk despite Shakhtar annoyance
Bailey said: “Arsenal want Mykhaylo Mudryk and they want the deal doing as soon as possible. We have already seen talks commence with Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk.
“Arsenal have no say on who Shakhtar can talk to, but they feel that their London rivals have been used somewhat to try and push them into a deal.
“But that aside talks continue and Arsenal remain confident they get a deal done.
“And you can’t ignore the fact that Mudryk has pushed so hard to get to Arsenal and I understand the player himself has made it clear again in the last week that Arsenal remain his first choice… and fair play to him, he is really pushing for that.”
Mudryk is under contract with Shakhtar until 2026. As a result, they have been holding out for a high asking price if they are to let him go.
With Chelsea also keen, Arsenal now risk being involved in something of an auction, which isn’t necessarily ideal.
There will be negotiating tactics on every side, so Arsenal will just be hoping everything falls in their favour.
If not, they have been linked with some alternative targets, as covered in Sunday’s edition of Transfer Gossip.
