Arsenal produced their best European away display of Mikel Arteta's reign as they secured a statement 5-1 victory over Sporting CP. It didn't take long for the Gunners to open a lead as Gabriel Martinelli tapped home Jurrien Timber's superb low cross.

Kai Havertz doubled the lead just after the 20 minute mark tapping home Bukayo Saka's shot-cum-cross. Arsenal could have had more but finally added a third when Gabriel headed home Declan Rice's corner on the stroke of half time.

Straight after the break though, Goncalo Inacio was able to pull one back for the hosts as he flicked home from a corner. For a while Arsenal were on the ropes but when Ousmane Diomande brought down Martin Odegaard in the box they had the chance to regain control. Saka made no mistake from the spot.

Leandro Trossard then added a fifth late on to complete the rout. Here's how football.london rated the Gunners individually in the game.

David Raya: Hardly anything to do in the first half. Worked much more often in the second period and stood up well to testing Sporting shots from distance. 7.

Jurrien Timber: His cross for Martinelli's opener was simply sublime. Continued to get forward well after that and stuck to his defensive duties too. 8.

William Saliba: Barely allowed Gyokeres a sniff all night on the rare occasions that the Swede tried to come down the right. Superb display. 8.

Gabriel: Really rises to the occasion when playing big players. Seemed to view the battle with Gyokeres as a matter of honour. Safe to say he won it. Popped up with a goal at the other end for good measure. 9.

Riccardo Calafiori: Lost Inacio completely for the goal to give the hosts a brief route back in to the game. Not always the best positionally either. 6.

Thomas Partey: An understated but impressive display. Helped relieve Arsenal from pressure with some superb balls in deep positions. His lob in the build up to the second goal was sublime too. 8.

Declan Rice: Got forward really well on the night. Constantly a threat in the opposition box. A little wild with his finishing but still a good return to the side. 8.

Martin Odegaard: Knitted play together brilliantly on the edge of the box where Sporting gave him far too much time. Arsenal look so much more of an attacking threat with him in the side. 9.

Bukayo Saka: Terrorised Araujo down the Sporting left. Another goal and another assist for the 23-year-old. His end product has been incredible this season. 9.

Kai Havertz: Ended something of a personal goal drought by netting here. A true poacher's finish. Was impressive aside from that as he brought his teammates into play. 8.

Gabriel Martinelli: Got the ball rolling with an early tap in. Caused Sporting problems with his movement in behind don the left after that. 8.

SUBSTITUTES -

Leandro Trossard: Popped up with probably the easiest goal he'll ever score. Deserved the fortune for gambling on Merino's shot. 7.

Mike Merino: Brought composure to the Arsenal midfield after coming on. Grabs an assist after Trossard headed home the rebound from his shot. 7.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: Came on too late for a rating. n/a.

Ethan Nwaneri: Came on too late for a rating. n/a.

Jakub Kiwior: Came on too late for a rating. n/a.
