As the end of pre-season draws near and real football is still sometime away, the mind of a fan wanders to the possibilities of transfers. And for any Arsenal fan, the one possibility that is the most dreaded is that of Alexis Sanchez’s departure.

While he may have reached the point of being irreplaceable, it is obvious Arsenal will use the cash that comes in to get one or more players to do just that. So, here are the three players I believe Arsène Wenger must sign in case the worst happens:

Thomas Lemar

Ever since the clubs of the world started raiding Monaco, only Lemar has got more attention than Kylian Mbappé. His tenacity is a known quantity to all and that also makes for the reason of his huge transfer fee requirement.

The two spots behind the striker, Lacazette, will be filled by Ozil and Alexis for now. But assuming the Chilean leaves for the highest bidder, which means Lemar may just be able to fit himself right into the XI.

At close to £50m, it surely will be a huge figure for a rising star in Europe. However, with his build and creativity, he should be well worth the money.

Riyad Mahrez

It has been a whole season since the hype about Vardy to Arsenal, so probably it is time to recreate the Leicester forward to Arsenal rumors now.

Despite a reality check of a season for the Foxes, Mahrez remains one of the Leicester players who can ask to play at that dream level again, albeit somewhere else. And as luck would have it, Arsenal would be in need of a creative spark in case their biggest light up front decides to call it quits.

The Algerian has been a little vocal about his preference over the last year and it would be wise of Wenger to grant him his wish of playing at the Emirates.

Arsenal are in need of a serious explosive player and there are few who can match the explosiveness of the POTY 2015-16.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

Alexis Sanchez is not the only flair player whose future is in doubt. And if you hear the rumors about Mesut Ozil finally extending his deal soon, there is only one player you really worry about.

Chamberlain has been leading a off & on career at the club and looks to be finally fed up at his chances in the first team. One would be forgiven to think he ever really could make it as a top footballer sometimes too.

Nevertheless, what the English ‘Ox’ has something Wenger cannot hope to give up at this time. His ability to throw open games on his own is unparalleled. One driving run on the flank and you have the entire opposition on the back foot.

With Santi Cazorla still missing in action, it is imperative Arsenal keep a player who can truly create chances out of nothing. And what do you know; maybe a full season with Lacazette and Ozil is just what Chamberlain needs to finally pay off his £15m transfer fee.
