Premier League side Arsenal are working hard to get a deal over the line for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta, according to reports.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of midfielders over the summer as Mikel Arteta identifies it as a key position to strengthen in the transfer window.

Arsenal have already signed Fabio Vieira from Porto this summer but interest in Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans appears concrete with his agent and the Gunners holding talks.

Arsenal: From Invincibles to a club without a chance of winning the Premier League again

And now Arsenal are being linked to Brazilian midfielder Paqueta at Ligue 1 side Lyon with Media Foot claiming that the Gunners are ‘pushing very hard’.

Arsenal are ‘pressing hard to bring him in during this summer transfer window’ and Lyon expect to ‘soon receive an offer’ from the Premier League club.

Mikel Arteta and his Gunners transfer team are ‘determined in this case’ but they want ‘to convince Lucas Paqueta to come before even starting possible negotiations with Lyon’.

It is understood that ‘several clubs’ have already tried but the 24-year-old has ‘vetoed’ their moves even after they got the ‘green light’ from Lyon.

This is why Arsenal want ‘to take the player step before the club obstacle’ with Paqueta ‘quite closed to the idea of leaving Lyon, where he feels good’.

However, it is claimed that since January Paqueta has ‘changed his thinking’ with Newcastle making ‘repeated offensives’ and he ‘could be tempted’ by a move to St James’ Park.

Arteta is said to have ‘the perfect speech to seduce’ Paqueta with the Brazil international ‘listening’ and ‘very attentive’ to the Gunners’ advances.

It is understood that Arsenal will make the ‘leap’ for the midfielder with Lyon asking for around €50m (£42m) to allow one of their prized assets to leave.

Paqueta, who moved to Lyon from AC Milan for €20m in September 2020, already has 33 caps and seven goals for the Brazil national team.

He has scored 21 goals in 78 appearances for the French club in his two seasons there and contributed 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions last term.
