Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Leandro Trossard from Brighton and Hove Albion, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Trossard has become unsettled at Brighton after failing to see eye to eye with head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Despite scoring five goals in 11 games since the Italian tactician took charge, their relationship has turned sour.

Trossard’s agent responded to his recent omission from their matchday squad against Liverpool by issuing a statement that made it clear a transfer was the only appropriate solution.

In that regard, the Belgium international has been tipped to end up in north London. He has been linked with arch-rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League, so are aiming to reinforce their squad further to preserve their momentum. They wanted to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk, for example, but missed out to another London rival, Chelsea.

Coincidentally, Chelsea have also recently come into the equation for Trossard’s transfer. However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Thursday morning that Arsenal are about to cross the finishing line.

The reporter tweeted in an exclusive scoop: “Arsenal have opened talks to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton, negotiations are advanced with official bid ready for permanent move.

“Personal terms already agreed — talks will continue to get deal done soon.”

He soon followed his reveal up with more information, indicating that the talks are “very advanced”. In fact, Romano predicts that Arsenal could close the deal “in the next hours”, since everything is “progressing fast”.

It will be a permanent transfer, although the cost of it is not yet clear.

Trossard ready to accept Arsenal transfer

On the player’s side, though, there is a “full agreement” for personal terms. Trossard will be signing a “long-term contract” at the Emirates Stadium once everything goes through.

The 28-year-old could then become useful to Mikel Arteta thanks to his versatility and experience. Across his Brighton career, Trossard has contributed 25 goals and 14 assists from 121 appearances.

Able to play as a winger or more centrally, Trossard could complement what Arsenal already have in many ways.

Although Arteta has built a squad with slightly more youthful options – as Mudryk would have been – Trossard is still in the prime of his career, as shown by his form this season. Besides, it will help an inexperienced side to have a figure with his authority among their ranks.

Trossard previously played in the Europa League with Genk. As well as pursuing the Premier League title, Arsenal are in that continental competition too. Therefore, they can lift the winger back up to European level and expect him to contribute for them on all fronts.

Beating their fierce rivals Tottenham to a deal will be particularly sweet, while there will also be the bonus of getting revenge on Chelsea after the Mudryk saga.
