Arsenal are weighing up the possibility of making an offer to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie before the end of the transfer window, according to reports.

The Gunners’ 3-2 victory over Manchester United on Sunday saw them regain their five-point lead over title rivals Man City, who they have a game in hand on.

Their place at the Premier League summit has seen them become active in the current transfer window as the Arsenal hierarchy aim to provide reinforcements for Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have also become a more appealing option for some players with the Gunners now extremely likely to be playing in the Champions League next season, while their current crop look like they could challenge for honours for years to come.

After missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea, Arsenal brought in Brighton forward Leandro Trossard,  while they will reportedly sign Spezia centre-back Jakub Kiwior in the next day or two.

And they will continue to look to address their midfield depth with many fans worried about their lack of cover if Thomas Partey gets injured before the end of the season.

Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport now claims that Arsenal are ‘on the trail’ of Juventus midfielder McKennie after they enquired about his services.

The report adds that the chat with the USA international’s agent ‘could soon become something more and ignite the final transfer market’.

It is understood that the Old Lady are ‘willing to negotiate for a reasonable offer’ and value him at €20-25m ‘on a fixed basis plus bonuses’ with Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Fulham also interested.

Offers have already arrived but McKennie has not ‘shown much interest so far because he would like to move to a top club’ like Arsenal, who could ‘make inroads on the midfielder’.

Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard says the Gunners will “stay calm and humble” as they look to win the Premier League title.

When asked if there was more pressure on the match because of Man City’s recent wins, Odegaard said: “No, honestly, we don’t care about City or any other team.

“We expected them to win so that was not a big surprise and we just focused on our game, to come here and win and that’s what we did. The way we won this game gives us a special feeling that will help as well.

“It’s a long season. We’re just halfway through, there are many games to be played so we have to stay calm and humble. Our only focus is the next game and that’s all that matters. We have to stay focused like this.”
