Arsenal are reportedly willing to meet the £51m (€60m) release clause of Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams as Paris Saint-Germain also consider a move.

The Gunners could look to bolster the left wing this summer and Williams would fit the bill with eight goals and 17 assists in 37 matches this season, aged just 21. A striker and midfielder are also thought to be on Arsenal’s transfer agenda.

A number of exits could fuel the move for Williams, including the departures of three academy stars. Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah would count as pure profit within Financial Fair Play given they cost nothing to bring to the club.

Arsenal already have two left-sided wingers in Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, who recorded a combined 32 goal contributions this season, 25 of these being goals. Williams has the ability to play on the right wing too and would more likely be used as Bukayo Saka’s back-up.

Reports also say Williams has a release clause of £51m, which FootballTransfers moots Arsenal are willing to meet. The former outlet also claims that PSG have earmarked the attacker as their priority replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

PSG have an advantage over Mikel Arteta due to head coach Luis Enrique holding an existing relationship with the player. Williams earned seven caps for Spain under Enrique, including four at the 2022 World Cup.

Furthermore, he would be offered more game time in Paris than in London due to the respective differing numbers in wing options. Todo Fichajes claims that PSG have already sent a proposal to the agents of Williams, who has three years left on his contract.

Arsenal are also supposedly stepping up their pursuit of the forward as a result, with the player yet to decide on his future. Williams, who lifted the Copa del Rey with Athletic this season, is likely to be taken to Euro 2024 with Spain so a decision might be delayed until after the conclusion of the tournament.
