Newcastle United are, reportedly, already eyeing possible replacements for Alexander Isak amid links with Arsenal. The Sweden striker faces an uncertain future at the Magpies - despite his contract having four years remaining - as heavy-handed rumours continue to swirl.

The Gunners have long been in the market for attacking reinforcements to provide competition for Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus with Isak among a host of names mooted. Mikel Arteta's side have also faced reports of interest in the likes of Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen - who has also captured European-wide attention.

Arsenal's hunt for strikers has been a frustrating one with little options in the market or facing eye-watering transfer and/or wage demands from prospective targets. Premier League-proven Isak has four goals and two assists in nine appearances so far this season, including his header in the 1-0 win against Arsenal in November.

According to a fresh report from TEAMtalk, Newcastle are already weighing up potential alternatives for their 25-year-old. It has been suggested that Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lille talisman Jonathan David have been eyed as successors for the No.9 position at St. James' Park.

Both David and Calvert-Lewin's respective deals expire at the end of the current season, thus offering up possible cheap options for Newcastle. The Magpies' Profit and Sustainability Rules concerns have been no secret after they faced pressure to steer clear from the red line and the risk of a Premier League sanction this summer.

Their efforts to move away from the precarious financial situation saw Anthony Gordon linked with a shock move to Liverpool. However, Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh both departed the North East - for Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively.

It has been suggested that Isak has his sights set on Champions League football, something Newcastle failed to claim last term. There have been talks over a possible extension of the Sweden international's contract, however manager Eddie Howe has previously described the situation as "complex".

"That's a slightly more complex situation," Howe said last month. "Regarding contracts, I'm not involved in those discussions day-to-day. With Alex, he's got a long contract anyway at the football club and we have to be really careful with our spending due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR). It's not a clear-cut situation."
