Arsenal are set to open contract talks with Jack Wilshere despite his mixed form at Bournemouth.

Wilshere has been at Vitality Stadium since last summer after falling down the pecking order at Arsenal, with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka all preferred to the Englishman.

The 25-year-old will enter into the final 12 months of his contract in the summer and the Gunners are desperate not to find themselves in a situation where he can leave the club for free, according to the Mirror.

West Ham are interested in Wilshere despite having recently lost his place in the starting XI at Bournemouth but Arsenal are including him in players they plan on opening contract talks with this summer.

Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also on their list with their deals expiring the same time as Wilshere’s, but the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, whose deals also run out in 2018, remain the priority.

Wenger admitted neither he nor the club had been in touch with Wilshere so far but it is likely they will soon as they plan their summer transfer activity.
