Arsenal are set to sign Brighton defender Ben White after agreeing a deal in principle for him worth £50million.

The Gunners have been chasing White all summer and failed with a bid of around £40m earlier on in the window.

They have, however, not been deterred and negotiations with Brighton have continued and remained amicable.

A fee of £50m has now been agreed for White and the 23-year-old is set to sign for Arsenal later this month, or at the start of August at the latest.

The centre-back is currently on holiday after being with England at Euro 2020, but will sign upon his return.

White is expected to sign a long-term contract with Arsenal and he is viewed as a big part of the club’s future.

The Gunners have made signing a centre-back a priority this summer and also scouted Ibrahima Konate before he joined Liverpool.

White has also been scouted by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United - but Arsenal were the only side to firm up their interest.
