Thomas Partey will bring balance to the Arsenal squad after completing his £45 million transfer from Atletico Madrid, according to his former coach Avram Grant.

The 27-year-old arrived on transfer deadline day after a long-running pursuit from the Gunners, who activated his release clause with 28 minutes to spare before the 11pm deadline.

Mikel Arteta had been chasing a defensive midfielder to accompany Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka and had used Mohamed Elneny as an alternative option in their first four games of the Premier League season.

But now that the Ghana international has joined the north London side, his former national team boss Grant - who guided Chelsea to the Champions League final in 2008 - thinks the midfielder will be a fine addition to Arteta's squad.

"He's a very good player who can make the balance because he can control the ball and even if he gives the ball away, he has a good sense of position on the pitch," Grant told Sky Sports.

"He's very strong to win the ball from the other team. He will not score a lot goals, he will score a few goals but he will give assists.

"He will give the team balance and this is very important today in football because when you have a good attack but no defence, you will win nothing.

"Arsenal has a good attack and the defence is more solid than before... he will bring good balance to the team."

Partey is currently away on international duty for friendlies against Mali and Qatar, but could make his debut for Arsenal against Manchester City on October 17.
