Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to recruit Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis.

Reis, 18, has attracted the attention of various European clubs as a result of performances for both club and country within the last year.

The teenager made his league debut back in June and has now found a regular place in the side of the reigning Brazilian champions, who are 22 games into their current campaign.

Reis has now been handed eight Serie A starts for his club, who may be keen to keep hold of the youngster having already lost Endrick to Real Madrid and Luis Guilherme to West Ham United.

Arsenal are claimed to be one of three Premier league clubs who have "sounded out" the centre-back, as reported by AS journalist Edu Borges, though Real Madrid could soon complicate matters. Los Blancos are "yet to make contact", though are expected to soon send scouts to watch Reis in action.

Reis has been the captain of Brazil’s under-17s team since the start of last year and started all but one of their matches as his country came out on top during last year's South American U-17 Championship.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Gunners will make an official move for Palmeiras' new gem further down the line and if the player meets Mikel Arteta's high standards. Asked recently if he would sign someone without the mentality he is seeking, the Arsenal boss said: "Ideally, no, because we are so aligned as well. The player first is a human being. Is that personality going to fit with what we want and the values of the football club, the values of the team, the spirit we want to create, the ambition that you need to have individually as a player, and then the qualities that we need.

"So if the first filter is not there, it’s not going to work. And if it works, is it going to work for a very short period? We are here to be consistent and keep evolving this club much further."
