Gabriel Jesus has reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms with Arsenal, who are now in contact with Manchester City.

Arsenal have identified Jesus as a major target in their search for a centre-forward this summer. They want him to take the place of Alexandre Lacazette in their squad after the Frenchman leaves as a free agent.

Jesus has been a Premier League player with Manchester City since 2017. About to enter the final year of his own contract, though, he could be on the move.

Arsenal are supposedly becoming more optimistic that they will be able to sign Jesus. Now, a further sign of progress has been unearthed by Football Insider.

The online outlet is reporting that Jesus has agreed personal terms with Arsenal, who will give him a better salary than he currently earns in Manchester.

The Brazil international is said to be keen to work with Mikel Arteta again. Arteta was on Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at City until he took the Arsenal job in 2019.

The Gunners have made progress over the past season, falling just short of Champions League qualification. Adding a new number nine could help them take the further steps they need to reach the top four.

Jesus must have been impressed by their project, as he is now reportedly ready to sign on the dotted line.

First of all, though, the two clubs must agree a deal for the striker to move. It has recently been reported that City are holding out for £55m, whereas Arsenal want to pay £40m.

Football Insider do not have any information on the specific costs. What they do remind is that Arsenal have a budget of more than £45m to sign any striker this summer.

Gabriel Jesus can freshen up Arsenal attack

Therefore, it seems Jesus fits within their strategy. And the report claims the two clubs are at least in primary contact over the potential deal.

If this is the end of his journey with Man City, Jesus would leave the club with 95 goals from 236 appearances.

By joining Arsenal, he would be competing with Eddie Nketiah for the centre-forward role, as long as the Englishman signs his own contract extension.

Nketiah took his chance towards the end of the season, so if he stays alongside Jesus, Arsenal’s attack could have the breath of fresh air some have felt it needs.
