Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema made history during Netherlands 3-1 Women’s World Cup victory over Cameroon as she became the country’s all-time leading goalscorer.

The Arsenal star’s brace took her to 60 goals for her country, surpassing the previous record of 59 held by compatriot Manon Melis.

Miedema achieved the remarkable feat in just 77 appearances for OranjeLeeuwinnen and perhaps more impressively, at just 22 years of age.

Her goals helped the Dutch to a hard-fought victory over the West African side at Stade du Hainaut, sealing a place in the last 16 of the competition fin the process.

Miedema’s first came towards the end of the first half as she finished off a slick passing move with a diving header to give Netherlands the lead.

Cameroon responded almost immediately and equalised courtesy of Gabrielle Onguene’s well-taken finish.

After the break, the Dutch re-took the lead as Miedema’s former Gunners teammate Dominique Bloodworth pounced following a mix-up in the Cameroon defence.

With just five minutes left on the clock, Miedema took centre stage.

The striker burst into the penalty area from the left and showed quick feet to shift the ball onto her right foot before slamming the ball past Annette Ngo Ndom to write her name into the record books.

Following their late win over New Zealand in their opening game, Netherlands have taken maximum points from their two matches so far.

A point from their final match against second-place Canada in their final first round match will see them top the group.
