Mikel Arteta will be keen to further bolster his squad this summer after missing out on the Premier League title by just two points. Arsenal have already been heavily linked with several big names but, for now, it remains to be seen whether or not the Kroenkes will sanction another spending spree.

Last year, the Gunners forked out over £200million on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber – the latter of whom unfortunately missed most of the campaign due to injury. The north Londoners made plenty of sales to fund their spending spree, so perhaps Edu is plotting another clear-out.

Whatever happens this summer, Arteta won't want any progress going to waste with the Manchester clubs and Chelsea expected to wheel out the war chests. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip on Sunday, May 26.

Martinez makes bold claim

Lautaro Martinez believes he's one of the best strikers in the world alongside Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski. The 26-year-old striker has been briefly linked with a move to the Premier League for a while now, namely Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, as he continues to impress at Inter Milan.

In an interview with Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, Martinez said: "I have nothing to be jealous of them, the numbers and the trophies say so. Some of them have won less than me. I have to keep working responsibly as my father taught me, but I can be at the same level as all these great players."

The Argentina international, who sees his contract at the San Siro expire in 2026, featured 33 times for Inter in the Serie A this season, scoring 24 goals and providing six assists. Martinez led Simone Inzaghi's side to the Scudetto, snatching the crown from last year's winners Napoli.

football.london says: "Lautaro Martinez would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal and he could be just what they need to finally win the Premier League title. He's a world-class striker who still has his best years ahead of him.

"The only issue, however, would be his price tag. Inter would almost certainly demand an eye-watering fee for his signature. As the Nerazzurri captain too, there's no guarantee that he would even want to leave..."

Smith Rowe showdown talks

According to The Athletic, Arsenal 'may accept the time is right to sell' Emile Smith Rowe this summer. The 23-year-old midfielder, who sees his contract at the Emirates Stadium expire in 2026, currently faces an uncertain future after a difficult campaign.

Smith Rowe featured just 19 times for the Gunners this season, where he averaged only 25 minutes an appearance. The Athletic claim that Arsenal higher-ups sat down with the player's representatives to discuss his future this time last year, making it crystal clear that he wasn't for sale.

The report adds that Arteta recognises Smith Rowe's ability to be a 'match-winner', but the club may decide to cash in on the playmaker. He enjoyed a brilliant campaign in 2021/22, earning himself a new contract, but he's since struggled with injuries.

football.london says: "It's been a real shame to see Arsenal cast Smith Rowe aside. He needs to leave and secure himself regular first-team football – preferably in the Premier League. Perhaps a move to Newcastle United?"

Martinelli and Trossard replacement named

Jason Cundy believes Eberechi Eze would be a better option for Arsenal than Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. The Crystal Palace ace enjoyed a superb end to the Premier League season, helping Oliver Glasner's side clamber into the top half of the table.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur defender said: "This kid is special. I think he is better than Doku. What I am doing is kind of comparing to where he can get in.

"I think he gets in Liverpool’s team. I think he gets in Arsenal’s team on the left-hand side. I would have him ahead of Trossard and Martinelli. I would. I 100% would."

Eze featured 27 times for Crystal Palace in the Premier League this term, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists. He sees his contract at Selhurst Park expire in 2027 after signing a lucrative extension in November 2023.

football.london says: "Yoooo! It's certainly a bold claim, but going off his recent form it's hard to argue. Leandro Trossard may have a case to argue after his second half of the season which almost delivered Arsenal that elusive Premier League title."
