Arsenal target told he would make a ‘great addition’ for Liverpool as Arteta ramps up interest
Peter Crouch thinks that Arsenal target Declan Rice would be a great addition for Liverpool, although a deal at this stage would be tough for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Fresh off winning the Europa Conference League with West Ham, Rice’s future is up in the air heading into the summer.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, although several other sides still hold an interest in him.
Crouch thinks that Rice would be perfect for Liverpool and would complement someone like Alexis Mac Allister.
“Alexis Mac Allister is a good signing for Liverpool,” Crouch told Paddy Power. “He’s a great player but the fans will want more signings before next season. Defensive reinforcements and another midfielder would be welcome.
“I know he’s being linked elsewhere but I’d absolutely love to see Declan Rice come in as well. He’s a class act and I think he could go to any club and be a great signing for them.
“It probably won’t be Liverpool as he’s going to be very expensive, but it would be a great addition.”
Liverpool do have more funds to work with after the deal for Mac Allister only cost them £35m in the end.
However, despite Liverpool’s need for another holding midfielder, it seems they will consider alternative options.
Reports have claimed that the Reds are close to striking a deal for Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.
The French midfielder will come considerably cheaper than Rice is likely to this summer.
West Ham reportedly value their prized asset at £110m and so it could take a British transfer record to land him.
It’s easy to see why he is so highly rated though and Crouch was pleased to see him lift the Conference League.
“I was delighted to see him pick up the Europa Conference League trophy with West Ham,” Crouch adds.
“People sniff at the competition, but I thought it was brilliant and you’ve seen the scenes – the players, the fans, the manager, they absolutely loved it. I was so pleased for them.”
Rice is contracted until 2024, with the option of a further year in his deal. With this being the case, West Ham are in a strong position to dictate his value.
Arsenal’s interest is only likely to ramp up from this point onwards though as they consider Rice a primary target.
