Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to battle for the signing of RB Leipzig star Lutsharel Geertruida. Both the Gunners and Spurs are likely to be linked with a number of potential new signings as the January transfer window fast approaches.

Mikel Arteta and Ange Postecoglou will have both been assessing their respective squads this season and decisions are expected to be made on whether Arsenal or Tottenham will dip into the transfer market in the New Year.

According to Caught Offside, Tottenham have identified Geertruida as their primary right-back target in the event that Pedro Porro leaves North London. Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in signing Porro in recent weeks as they search for a new right-back, with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also reportedly a target.

The report claims that Spurs have a "concrete" interest in signing Geertruida but will face competition from Arsenal for his signature. It has also been claimed that Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund and Lyon are also in the running to sign the former Feyenoord star.

Geertruida left the Eredivisie club last summer to sign for Leipzig in a deal reportedly worth €25million (£20.8million). He has since gone on to make 14 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal in the Bundesliga from right-back.

Despite only signing Geertruida in the summer, Leipzig are reported to have put a €45million (£37.4million) price tag on the versatile defender ahead of the January transfer window. Geertruida is contracted at Leipzig until 2029, and even though he moved to the German club a few months ago, it has been suggested that the 24-year-old has a desire to play in the Premier League.
