Calum Chambers has joined Aston Villa on a permanent deal.

The defender leaves Arsenal after eight years having only made five appearances all season and not playing in the Premier League since August’s 5-0 loss away at Manchester City.

Chambers, who has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Villa Park, moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2014 after impressing in Southampton’s first-team in a deal worth around £16m. In total, Chambers made 112 appearances for the club, scoring five goals in the process.

Steven Gerrard has already added Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and Robin Olsen to his squad during the January so far as the former Rangers manager looks to stamp his authority onto the team.

“We wish Calum all the best for the next chapter in his career and thank him for his contribution to Arsenal over the past eight seasons,” read a statement on Arsenal’s official website.
