Arsenal are confident of wrapping up a deal to sign Albert Sambi Lokonga and have made a breakthrough in talks with Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares.

The Gunners agreed a fee for Tavares on Wednesday and they are set to pay around £7million upfront for the 21-year-old, with a further £1.5m due in add-ons.

Tavares has agreed personal terms and now needs to undergo a medical.

The Portuguese defender will be expected to join the first-team squad to provide competition and cover for Kieran Tierney at left-back.

Arsenal are continuing to work on other deals and a move for Lokonga is progressing well.

An opening bid of around £13m was rejected for the midfielder last month but negotiations have continued with Anderlecht and they are understood to be progressing well.

The 21-year-old is keen to move to north London and there is confidence among all parties a deal will get done.
