Arsenal vs Chelsea LIVE!

Arsenal blew their London rivals away in a one-sided Florida Cup final in Orlando on Saturday night. The Gunners notched four times at Camping World Stadium to continue their 100 per cent record in pre-season and lay down a serious marker ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Mikel Arteta’s side got off to a flying start as Gabriel Jesus continued his superb beginning to life in an Arsenal shirt, producing a brilliant lob to notch his fourth goal in as many games for his new club. Martin Odegaard then fired home for 2-0, before Mason Mount hit the woodwork just before the interval.

Despite Chelsea appearing better equipped after a half-time formation change, Arsenal notched twice more in the second period, with Bukayo Saka netting from close range after an Edouard Mendy double save and Albert Sambi Lokonga popping up with a header from Cedric Soares’ perfect cross deep into stoppage time. Follow Arsenal vs Chelsea reaction with Standard Sport’s live blog below, featuring expert analysis from Nizaar Kinsella at the ground!

Arsenal 4-0 Chelsea: Match report

12:07 , Marc Mayo

Gabriel Jesus continued his superb start to life as an Arsenal player as the confident Gunners maintained their 100 per cent pre-season record by inflicting an embarrassing 4-0 defeat on woeful Chelsea in Orlando.

The Brazilian striker, who became the Gunners’ new No9 after joining from Manchester City in a £45million deal earlier this month, struck inside 15 minutes of Saturday night’s Florida Cup final after impudently dinking the ball over Edouard Mendy after Chelsea had given the ball away and been duly punished by Granit Xhaka.

It was Jesus’ fourth goal already in as many summer fixtures for his new club, having flourished since reuniting with Mikel Arteta in north London.

Dominant Arsenal - who also handed an immediate first start to new £32m signing Oleksandr Zinchenko - were much the better team throughout an all-London contest played in front of a record 63,811-strong crowd at Camping World Stadium.

Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea have too many players who aren’t committed after suffering a shock 4-0 defeat to Arsenal - meaning they won’t likely be ready for the start of the season.

The Blues have only offloaded Romelu Lukaku this summer and have several other players with question marks over their future.

Speaking from the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, the Blues boss spoke about his concerns going into the new season.

"I’m far from relaxed. I think we deserved to lose – which is fair enough – because we were simply not good enough," Tuchel said in Florida.

Chelsea will be concerned about such a poor display.

Arsenal exposed a weak backline with Kalidou Koulibaly only playing a few minutes and other new signings yet to arrive.

They also looked toothless in attack without a main striker. Gabriel Jesus, whom they were once interested in, subsequently stole the show.

Another problem has been all the travel and high temperatures during the Blues’s United States tour.

Thomas Tuchel has complained about that and how distracting his involvement in transfers has been.

Arsenal 4-0 Chelsea

A real summer statement from the confident Gunners, who end their US tour with three wins from three games and nine goals, picking up the Florida Cup trophy for their efforts.

But it’s an embarrassing result for Chelsea, who evidently have so much to work on before the Premier League starts again in less than two weeks.

GOAL! Arsenal 4-0 Chelsea | Albert Sambi Lokonga 92’

03:01 , George Flood

92 mins: An embarrassing night for Chelsea is complete deep into second-half stoppage time.

Lokonga heads past Mendy unmarked after being picked out by a superb Cedric cross from the right flank.

That will likely be the last action of a thoroughly one-sided contest.

(Getty Images)

02:57 , George Flood

90 mins: Koulibaly trips Nketiah and is booked, with Mendy then at full stretch to keep out Pepe’s free-kick.

Two minutes of added time signalled in Orlando.

Nizaar Kinsella at Camping World Stadium

02:56 , George Flood

Aaron Ramsdale was blowing kisses to the Chelsea fans in the second half as they booed him.

He has been excellent in his distribution, especially compared to Edouard Mendy, who has struggled all game in that regard

In front of 63,811 fans in a full Camping World Stadium, the Gunners have got the best of their rivals in all areas of the pitch with excellent outings from their new signings.

02:52 , George Flood

84 mins: Chelsea fans won’t be able to take many positives from this defeat, but Koulibaly is already showing glimpses of what he can bring to this backline.

He makes a solid block on Pepe inside the box and shows his speed, nous and strength on several occasions. Very promising signs indeed.

02:45 , George Flood

02:45 , George Flood

78 mins: More subs from Arteta, both in midfield as Lokonga and Maitland-Niles replace Xhaka and Odegaard.

02:43 , George Flood

75 mins: It’s getting feisty again out there as Alonso is booked for bringing down Arsenal’s teenage winger Marquinhos.

Ampadu gets the same for his foul on Tavares, with Odegaard then cautioned for dragging down Pulisic.

Three yellows in quick succession for similar infringements in a pre-season friendly.

02:40 , George Flood

72 mins: Arsenal also ring the changes, with Marquinhos, Pepe, Cedric, Turner and Elneny coming on for Saka, Martinelli, White, Ramsdale and Partey.

02:39 , George Flood

70 mins: Changes galore now as Chelsea send on Koulibaly, Ampadu and Hudson-Odoi in place of James, Thiago Silva and Jorginho.

A Blues debut for £34m new defender Koulibaly in less than ideal circumstances!

GOAL! Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea | Bukayo Saka 66'

02:30 , George Flood

66 mins: Saka makes it three for Arsenal!

Two big saves from Mendy in quick succession to keep out Martinelli’s curled strike and Xhaka’s clever volley after some nifty build-up play inside the box.

However, he pushes the ball straight back out into the danger zone and Saka is on hand to fire in.

This is turning into a very comfortable night indeed for the Gunners, who have been much the better team.

Plenty of concerns to ponder for Chelsea and Tuchel.

02:28 , George Flood

63 mins: Two more changes for Chelsea now.

Ziyech and Batshuayi replace Havertz and Mount.

02:27 , George Flood

60 mins: Into the final half an hour in Orlando and another yellow card is brandished for substitute Nketiah.

Tempers then flare between Tavares and James after a foul by the latter, with Xhaka also getting involved and some shoving ensuing.

All entirely unnecessary, especially in a pre-season friendly.

02:22 , George Flood

55 mins: Jesus and Xhaka both look to have picked up injuries for Arsenal here.

A major worry for Arteta, who takes no chances and withdraws the in-form Brazilian in favour of Eddie Nketiah.

Albert Sambi Lokonga was also going to come on, but I think Xhaka is going to be okay to continue for now.

02:20 , George Flood

53 mins: It’s Chelsea’s turn to dominate proceedings now, with Havertz posing the danger before being dispossessed inside the Arsenal box.

The Gunners break and a long-range effort from Xhaka is off target.

02:17 , George Flood

51 mins: Chelsea are trying to trouble Ramsdale in the Arsenal goal, but Sarr’s ambitious effort from distance flies well over the bar.

But this is more encouraging from Tuchel’s men, who are looking far more comfortable in a familiar shape and seeing a decent share of possession early in this second half.

02:15 , George Flood

47 mins: Chelsea look to start the second half on the front foot, with Mount then having his name taken.

Is that a case of mistaken identity by the referee?!

The foul looked to have been committed by Sarr. How strange.

In fact, I think Sarr accidentally stood on Mount’s foot...

Second half

02:11 , George Flood

Back underway for the second half in Orlando.

Azpilicueta, Pulisic, Alonso and Kovacic replace Sterling, Werner, Emerson and Gallagher.

Chelsea have reverted back to their 3-4-3 system as expected.

Arsenal’s only half-time change sees debutant Zinchenko replaced by Nuno Tavares.

Watch: Jesus continues Arsenal hot streak

02:07 , George Flood

Four goals and counting for Jesus in as many games in pre-season. Fair to say he’s enjoying his start to life in an Arsenal jersey!

02:05 , George Flood

Nizaar reports that Pulisic, Alonso, Azpilicueta and Kovacic are all warming up for Chelsea at the break.

Are they all set to come on for the start of the second half?

Nizaar Kinsella at Camping World Stadium

02:02 , George Flood

Chelsea are really struggling here. They can’t string together a spell of possession and look shaky in a back four.

Trevoh Chalobah was seen talking to Thomas Tuchel after his mistake for the first goal and was replaced by Malang Sarr late in the half.

He picked up a knock in a duel with Gabriel Martinelli but the manager will have to give more of his players a stern telling off to avoid an embarrassing scoreline.

I would also expect big changes and possibly a switch back to their usual 3-4-3 system.

01:55 , George Flood

Arsenal well on top in the opening 45 minutes in Orlando and more than worthy of their two-goal lead... it could and probably should be more.

Chelsea have looked uncomfortable in their shape, giving the ball away frequently and offering preciously little in attack until Mount hit the post on the stroke of half-time.

Plenty of work to do for what will no doubt be a much-changed Blues team after the interval.

Arteta will be delighted. His team look confident and slick, with Jesus continuing his dynamite start to life as Arsenal’s new No9.

Half-time

01:52 , George Flood

Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea

01:52 , George Flood

49 mins: Woodwork!

Chelsea have been firmly second best in this first half, but strike the frame of the goal just before the break as a fierce Mount effort rattles the post.

I don’t think a sprawling Ramsdale got a finger to that.

01:50 , George Flood

47 mins: Arsenal are so much more confident on the ball than Chelsea tonight, playing with a verve and rhythm in possession that their London rivals are sorely lacking.

They push for a third goal before the interval, but Jesus is stopped in his tracks inside the box.

01:49 , George Flood

45 mins: Four minutes of added time signalled at the end of the first half in Orlando.

Partey wraps his foot around the ball and tries to curl a strike into the top corner, but the ball hurtles wide with Mendy committed.

01:47 , George Flood

42 mins: A heart in mouth moment for Ramsdale, who unconvincingly flicks away James’ awkwardly deflected cross after promising work from Sterling.

Chalobah had looked fine to continue for Chelsea, at least until half-time, but now makes way for Malang Sarr.

Tuchel taking no risks.

01:44 , George Flood

01:43 , George Flood

38 mins: Better from Chelsea as James fizzes a dangerous low ball across the six-yard box, with no Blues attacker able to apply the finishing touch.

Martinelli then leads an Arsenal break before being stopped by Chalobah, who hurts himself in the tackle.

He receives treatment before limping off gingerly with half-time looming.

GOAL! Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea | Martin Odegaard 35'

01:38 , George Flood

35 mins: Arsenal double their advantage with Chelsea all at sea again!

The Blues give the ball away cheaply once more and are duly punished, with Martinelli threading a pass for Odegaard in the box.

The Norwegian needs no second invitation to rifle a low snapshot beyond Mendy and into the bottom corner.

Chelsea need to get a grip.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

01:37 , George Flood

32 mins: To the relief of Arsenal fans and Mikel Arteta, Martinelli has had the issue strapped up and looks fine to continue.

01:34 , George Flood

30 mins: Concern for Arsenal here as Martinelli goes down and stays down after a decent run and tussle with James.

He seems to be holding his left hand or wrist after an awkward landing or collision with the advertising hoardings and is receiving treatment from the medical staff.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

01:33 , George Flood

28 mins: Play is back underway and there’s ironic cheers from the Arsenal fans inside Camping World Stadium as a rusty Werner touch sees the ball drift harmlessly out of play for a Ramsdale goal kick.

01:31 , George Flood

25 mins: Tuchel will have the chance to dole out some instructions to his players now during a mid-half drinks break in humid Orlando, where there were thunderstorms earlier today.

The German makes a beeline straight for Chalobah.

01:28 , George Flood

23 mins: Chelsea try to hit back as Emerson is brought down by White, who gets his head to the Italian’s free-kick first and Ramsdale is able to gather comfortably.

Werner had rather got in Havertz’s way a few moments before that, straying offside and not being of much help to his compatriot.

01:25 , George Flood

01:24 , George Flood

18 mins: Arsenal quickly go in search of a second goal as Odegaard’s free-kick - which may just have been floating over anyway - is helped beyond the crossbar by the fingertips of Mendy.

Tuchel will be demanding swift improvements from his side here, friendly or no friendly.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea | Gabriel Jesus 15'

01:18 , George Flood

15 mins: Deadlock broken in Orlando as Jesus’ superb start to life as an Arsenal player continues!

The Gunners have been in control since kick-off and get their reward, helped by some sloppy play from Chelsea.

Xhaka capitalises on a loose Chalobah ball by firing a low pass into the path of Jesus, who continues his hot pre-season streak by impudently dinking the ball over Mendy with Thiago Silva trying to apply pressure.

Chelsea are really struggling at the moment.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

01:16 , George Flood

12 mins: Arsenal are dominating proceedings just at the moment, passing the ball around well and finding plenty of space out wide against Chelsea’s narrow back four.

Zinchenko lets fly with an effort that is blocked, with a goal kick then handing the Blues some respite.

01:15 , George Flood

10 mins: A great early tempo and intensity to this game, which is a friendly in name only.

Both sides are looking to tease out that effective final ball, with Saka the chief danger for Arsenal, just overhitting a pass intended for Odegaard inside the box.

Thiago Silva sees it out for a goal kick.

Nizaar Kinsella at Camping World Stadium

Arsenal are wearing black armbands tonight to remember renowned supporter Maria Petri. She was a regular at men’s first team, youth and women’s matches since the 1950s after first attending at 12 years old.

Petri sadly passed away this week.

01:10 , George Flood

7 mins: That’s another poor challenge from Gallagher on England team-mate Saka.

The Chelsea midfielder probably needs to calm down a touch here.

01:09 , George Flood

5 mins: Sterling surges forward for Chelsea, slipping in Werner, whose shot is well blocked by an attentive Saliba.

But Arsenal break out quickly from the corner, spearheaded by Martinelli, leading to a low drive from Saka that is turned away well by the left boot of Mendy.

(Getty Images)

01:06 , George Flood

3 mins: The meaty challenges are flying in thick and fast early on here, with Gallagher scything down Saka.

Jesus is then felled by compatriot Thiago Silva, with Xhaka standing over a long-range free-kick... that he inadvertently drills straight into the back of team-mate Jesus.

01:04 , George Flood

1 min: An early clash between former Manchester City team-mates as Jesus is crudely barged over by Sterling inside a minute.

Both sides look to make inroads during a lively start...

Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss are watching on at the Camping World Stadium. They’ve been seen pitchside with Thomas Tuchel and Christian Pulisic doing a presentation.

The match with Arsenal is a huge 60,000 sell-out, showing the potential for the sport to grow stateside. It’s a relief after the Blues’s last few games have failed to fill stadiums in the United States.

Zinchenko starts for Arsenal but no Fabio Vieira

Sunday 24 July 2022 00:29 , George Flood

As for Arsenal, Oleksandr Zinchenko is deemed ready for an immediate start so soon after joining from Manchester City.

However, Fabio Vieira is still absent after shaking off that foot issue, as are Emile Smith Rowe, Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes, Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey all come into a strong starting XI as Mikel Arteta ramps up preparations for the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 5.

Gabriel Jesus is also back to lead the line and continue his fine start to life in an Arsenal shirt.

Sterling earns first Chelsea start with Koulibaly on bench

Sunday 24 July 2022 00:23 , George Flood

So Raheem Sterling gets his first start for Chelsea tonight as expected, with Kalidou Koulibaly poised for his Blues debut off the bench.

Conor Gallagher also has another chance to impress Thomas Tuchel as he features from the off in Orlando, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Trevoh Chalobah all back in the first XI.

Timo Werner has shrugged off a hamstring injury to start in attack, while Cesar Azpilicueta is among the substitutes.

Looks like a 4-2-3-1 for Chelsea, though you wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 4-3-3 either with Sterling, Werner and Havertz in attack.

“We’ll make that decision but I reassure you that the player is going to be pushing to play some minutes.”

Tuchel: I’m not sure I want to give Azpilicueta what he wants

Saturday 23 July 2022 23:41 , George Flood

The future of long-serving Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has once again been a key talking point in the build-up to tonight’s pre-season London derby across the Atlantic.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is understanding of the Spaniard’s desire to return home with long-term suitors Barcelona, but insists the club will not allow him to leave on the cheap.

“It’s a tough question because I am not sure if I want to give Azpi what he wants,” Tuchel said. “At some point it is about what we want. I made the comparison about how much we fought for Kalidou Koulibaly, who is a national team player and roughly the same age. I see [Azpilicueta] maybe at the same level but Barcelona don’t see him on that level.

“I said that to him … that I understand on a personal and a career level. But I am not only in this role to give him what he wants. I am a manager for Chelsea who wants to do what’s best for Chelsea. He doesn’t like it but he understands.”

Arteta: Kroenkes have proven their commitment to Arsenal

Saturday 23 July 2022 23:23 , George Flood

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised the Kroenke family for spending aggressively in the transfer market in a bid to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool, writes Nizaar Kinsella in Orlando.

The Gunners have spent £118million already this summer and could add another big name before the window closes.

Owner Stan Kroenke and his son Josh both travelled from Denver to watch Wednesday’s 3-1 win against Orlando City and oversee the £32m the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Arsenal fans wanted the Kroenkes to sell the club to Spotify owner Daniel Ek last year.

But Arteta believes they have demonstrated their commitment to the club by spending more than £250m on transfers over the past year.

Arsenal have enjoyed the better pre-season record, owing to their ability to get out of the blocks quicker in the transfer market.
