Arsenal 2-0 Leeds LIVE! Nketiah, Chambers goals - Carabao Cup result, match stream and latest updates today

Arsenal vs Leeds - LIVE!

The Gunners eased into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.

Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah were the unlikely heroes for much-changed Arsenal, who will have their eye on winning this competition for the first time since 1993.

Chambers scored with his first touch just 23 seconds after replacing the injured Ben White - his first goal for two years.

Nketiah then wrapped up the win against his former loan club, making it six victories from the last eight matches for resurgent Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Leeds’ difficult start to the 2021/22 season continued as they now focus on trying to move away from the Premier League’s bottom three.

Dan James and Jack Harrison had the best chances on the night for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, but could not find a way past Bernd Leno.

A classic Carabao Cup game really. Plenty of changes, players lacking minutes and chemistry, but Arsenal got the job done.

Only real worry is a possible injury to Ben White, otherwise a good night’s work.

Quarter-final should be December 22.

Full-time

Arsenal 2-0 Leeds

Forgotten men Chambers and Nketiah fire the Gunners into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

21:38 , George Flood

94 mins: Leeds strive for a late consolation, but neither Struijk nor Gelhardt can find the target.

21:34 , George Flood

90 mins: Four minutes of added time signalled. No threat coming from Leeds now - this one is surely over.

21:32 , George Flood

88 mins: Arsenal have been mostly content to let Leeds have the ball in these final few minutes, but Lacazette has just caught Phillips - who wanted a foul - in possession before rifling over the bar.

21:26 , George Flood

80 mins: Arsenal have taken their foot off the gas now as Leeds try and push to set up a grandstand finish, but it’s just not happening for them.

Into the final 10 minutes.

21:20 , George Flood

75 mins: A couple of defensive injury concerns for Arsenal tonight now as Holding is down and won’t continue.

He’s replaced by Nuno Tavares.

21:18 , George Flood

Leeds have sent on teenagers Crysencio Summerville and Sam Greenwood in a bid to find a way back into this game. James and Rodrigo off.

Arteta responds by replacing Smith Rowe and Elneny with Alexandre Lacazette and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

A gift from Leeds to Arsenal, but that was also a classic Nketiah goal.

He always seems to score from chasing down lost causes.

GOAL! Arsenal 2-0 Leeds | Eddie Nketiah 69'

21:11 , George Flood

69 mins: It’s two!

It’s a long ball from Leno that is flicked on by Nketiah, with Drameh heading back to Cooper, who tries to head all the way back to Meslier.

But Nketiah chases it down and nips in ahead of Meslier, lobbing the ‘keeper, taking a touch and then nearly botching the low finish with the goal gaping as he just about finds the back of the net against his former loan club.

It came off his shin I think.

Regardless, Arsenal look to be marching into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

21:11 , George Flood

67 mins: Arsenal haven’t had too much defending to do since the break, but that’s sloppy as they miss out on second balls and allow Harrison far too much space to shoot.

His tame effort is straight at Leno, however.

21:07 , George Flood

64 mins: Nketiah just caught on his heels somewhat there as Cedric whips in a dangerous cross from the right flank.

If he’d made a run across the front post, that could easily have been 2-0.

21:06 , George Flood

62 mins: Arsenal are pushing for a second goal here, with Nketiah lively and out to hurt his former club.

The Gunners are looking dangerous every time they come forward.

21:03 , George Flood

59 mins: Cedric into the book as Leeds try to mount a response.

Bielsa has sent on captain Liam Cooper for Llorente.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

21:02 , George Flood

A bizarre minute or so for Arsenal. First White went off injured and then his replacement scores.

Chambers was mobbed by the Gunners bench after that goal.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Leeds | Calum Chambers 56’

20:58 , George Flood

56 mins: How’s that for an introduction?! Chambers scores with his first touch!

The versatile defender - who had only been on the pitch for 23 seconds - reacts quickest after a corner from the left is nodded on by Nketiah and then back across goal by Pepe.

Meslier thought he had kept the header out, but is overruled by goal-line technology.

After a bit of a long wait, Chambers’ first goal for two years is confirmed!

20:57 , George Flood

54 mins: Super play from Martinelli, who twists and weaves his way past Drameh before Harrison concedes the corner on the cover.

A blow for Arsenal here as White is down and won’t be able to continue. Calum Chambers is on in his place.

20:55 , George Flood

52 mins: A great driving run from Martinelli, but there’s no end product as his shot cannons straight into Pascal Struijk.

A second change from Bielsa sees Roberts make way for teenage forward Joe Gelhardt.

20:53 , George Flood

50 mins: Arsenal are beginning to ask questions of this Leeds defence now as Maitland-Niles tries to pick out the great movement of Nketiah, with the ball deflected behind for a corner.

The ball falls loose for a moment but is promptly hacked away.

20:50 , George Flood

47 mins: Rodrigo and Martinelli in the wars early in this second half, with the latter feeling the brunt of a strong but fair challenge from teenager Drameh.

Second half underway

20:48 , George Flood

Back off and running at the Emirates.

Leeds have made a half-time change, with Forshaw - only recently back after a hellish time through injury - replaced by Klich.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

20:42 , George Flood

A pretty disjointed game, with Arsenal playing like a side who’ve made nine changes.

White has been good, as has Maitland-Niles, while Leno has made a few decent saves to deny Leeds.

Half-time

20:32 , George Flood

Arsenal 0-0 Leeds

Goalless at the break.

Arsenal made a fast start, but it’s Leeds that have looked the most threatening, with Leno denying both James and Harrison.

20:31 , George Flood

45 mins: Arsenal probing for a late first-half chance as the fourth official indicates one minute of additional time before the interval.

Nothing doing for Smith Rowe out on the right flank.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

20:30 , George Flood

I cannot think of many things more frustrating than watching Nicolas Pepe. I am convinced there is a player in there, but once again tonight we aren’t seeing it.

The right side of Arsenal’s attack isn’t clicking.

20:28 , George Flood

40 mins: Arsenal’s turn to put the pressure on now as Pepe finds the overlapping Smith Rowe, whose cross deflects behind off Phillips. Did that hit his arm?

Panic in the Leeds box as the corner is headed on by Kolasinac but goes safe.

Nketiah keeps the attack alive with a deep cross from the left, met by the head of Kolasinac. It’s a poor touch from Pepe and Smith Rowe slices an effort well wide.

20:24 , George Flood

37 mins: Leno has been nice and quick off his line a few times so far in this first half and his anticipation is good again as he reads a low through ball intended for Rodrigo and prevents the danger.

At the other end, Martinelli applies a huge amount of pressure on Llorente, whose panicked pass back goes out for a corner.

But here come Leeds again on the counter, with James driving through the middle but deciding on the wrong option as he tries to play in Stuart Dallas to his left.

Opportunity lost.

20:22 , George Flood

36 mins: Martinelli is caught by a stray arm from Drameh and goes down clutching his face.

That looked very much accidental, but Arteta is incensed down on the touchline as he makes a swinging elbow gesture and argues with the fourth official.

20:21 , George Flood

34 mins: Incisive counter-attacking play again from Leeds, with Drameh feeding James, who quickly hits a square pass inside from the right flank.

The ball reaches Roberts, who gets into the box and tries to create separation from White and get onto his right foot, with his eventual shot flying well wide.

20:19 , George Flood

32 mins: Arsenal are trying to rediscover that earlier tempo, with Maitland-Niles catching Rodrigo in possession and then bursting forward with purpose.

Pepe hesitates just inside the box but still earns a corner, which Leeds quickly clear as they pour forward again on the counter...

20:15 , George Flood

29 mins: Arsenal soaking up more pressure as a Leeds corner is cleared to the edge of the box, where James fires a spinning ball straight at Leno.

White is then frustrated as he is tripped by Rodrigo while trying to bring the ball out of defence again.

Leeds with a clear tactic to prevent that from happening.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

20:14 , George Flood

That’s two decent saves from Leno, who is of course fighting to win back the No1 shirt.

Tonight is a good chance for him to remind Aaron Ramsdale that he’s up for the battle.

20:12 , George Flood

26 mins: Leeds are enjoying their best spell of the match as Llorente just can’t guide home a close-range header from a corner and Leno gets down to make a strong save at his near post after Harrison’s stinging effort goes through the legs of Maitland-Niles.

Nketiah had earlier been dispossessed too easily by Llorente, with Harrison trying to pick out Rodrigo with a cross that was headed away by White.

20:11 , George Flood

24 mins: Meslier slaps away a corner from the right after a deep Arsenal free-kick was cleared by Llorente before Pepe’s hopeful drive went behind off Phillips.

Leeds break quickly, but just can’t find that final ball.

20:09 , George Flood

21 mins: Jack Harrison looks like he is going to pull the trigger from range, but instead tries to dink a ball to Forshaw at the back post and is visibly frustrated as it drifts harmlessly wide.

White then mirrors centre-back partner Holding by driving forward out of defence but is felled by a combination of Phillips and Tyler Roberts, with the latter booked.

20:06 , George Flood

19 mins: A big chance for Leeds as Llorente - with all the time in the world - fires a wonderful long ball over the head of White, though James’ first touch is crucially too heavy and it allows Leno to save his prodded effort.

Arteta will be furious with how easily that one ball over the top left his defence floundering.

Arsenal break but Pepe’s effort was never going to trouble Meslier.

20:04 , George Flood

17 mins: That’s a lovely turn from Nketiah just inside his own half as he then sprints into Leeds territory, but he just overruns it and possession is lost.

Just before that, Adam Forshaw had surged forward for Leeds, sliding a through ball looking for the run of Rodrigo, who was offside.

20:01 , George Flood

14 mins: Drameh shows his attacking potential with a nice ball into Rodrigo, who works his way into the box, though Holding is there to turn behind under pressure from Phillips.

The subsequent Leeds corner is cleared as Arsenal attempt to launch a swift counter-attack.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

19:59 , George Flood

A decent start from Arsenal, who are trying to play with the same tempo they had against Aston Villa.

Martinelli is typically lively and you feel like he could have some joy against Drameh, who is just 19.

19:58 , George Flood

11 mins: Arsenal keep up the pressure and force a couple more corners in quick succession, but Leeds survive.

Arteta will be pleased with his side’s energy and tempo early on here.

19:57 , George Flood

10 mins: Shouts for a penalty after Llorente’s risky sliding challenge on Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but nothing is given and that likely would have been a free-kick on the edge of the box anyway.

Arsenal still have the ball and Martinelli’s low effort is blocked behind by the legs of Ilan Meslier.

19:55 , George Flood

8 mins: The pacy Dan James posing a threat down that Leeds left flank, but he’s flagged offside after accepting a pass and trying to get a cross in.

At the other end, a crucial intervention from Drameh stops Arsenal in their tracks.

19:52 , George Flood

6 mins: Still nice and positive from Arsenal as Holding - wearing the captain’s armband tonight - drives forward from defence and slips the ball in for Nketiah, who is marginally offside as he gets into the box and drags a shot well wide of the near post.

19:50 , George Flood

4 mins: Diego Llorente with some early words of advice for young Leeds debutant Cody Drameh, who is slow to take on a pass from the Spaniard, with Llorente then having to make a firm sliding challenge on the opportunistic Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal come forward once more and a ball from former Leeds loanee Eddie Nketiah flashes across the box.

19:47 , George Flood

2 mins: A high tempo from the start with the crowd really up for this.

Nicolas Pepe forces an early Arsenal corner and it’s aimed towards Rob Holding, with Leeds just hooking clear.

The Gunners sustain their momentum. A positive start from Arteta’s men, with only a misplaced pass from Sead Kolasinac halting their early attack.

We are underway at the Emirates!

Who will book their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals?

Andre Marriner is the man with the whistle tonight.

Fair play to the Leeds fans. It’s a Tuesday night, in the Carabao Cup, and they’ve packed out the away end.

There must be over 5,000 of them and they’re making plenty of noise.

19:42 , George Flood

A strong contingent of travelling Leeds fans tonight, as usual.

The visitors - all in blue - emerge from the tunnel first, with boos from the home supporters.

A rousing reception follows for the Gunners, in their familiar red and white home strips.

Here are Simon Collings’ thoughts on that team news from the Emirates...

Four Leeds changes; debut for Drameh

19:08 , George Flood

Leeds hand a debut to teenage defender Cody Drameh at right-back.

Kalvin Phillips, Adam Forshaw and Tyler Roberts also return to the starting XI.

Jamie Shackleton, captain Liam Cooper, the injured Raphinha and Mateusz Klich all make way.

Arsenal make nine changes as White and Smith Rowe keep places

19:03 , George Flood

So that’s nine changes from the Arsenal side that beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Friday night, with only Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe keeping their starting berths.

Otherwise it’s largely as we expected, with Sead Kolasinac preferred to Nuno Tavares at left-back with Kieran Tierney sidelined.

There’s a very strong bench if things don’t go according to plan, with youngster Salah-Eddine also in the match day squad.

Cedric Soares is conducting pre-match broadcast duties for Arsenal, so we can safely assume he is starting tonight.

No extra-time tonight

18:38 , George Flood

A reminder that there will be no extra-time tonight if the tie is level after 90 minutes. The match would go straight to penalties.

There is also no VAR available at this stage of the competition.

Our man Simon Collings has arrived on a clear but crisp autumn night at the Emirates...

Arteta hails Aubameyang and Lacazette

18:14 , George Flood

Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unlikely to feature for Arsenal tonight, but Mikel Arteta was nevertheless effusive in his praise of the striker in the build-up to the visit of Leeds to north London.

Asked if Aubameyang was finally rediscovering his best form after seven goals in nine appearances so far this season, including in back-to-back games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, the Spaniard said: "I wouldn't go to the goals, again it is what Auba is transmitting on the pitch.

"I have never seen Auba transmit what he is doing now. It is a click.

"Apart from the goals, the celebration when they put the ball in the net, do you see the way he runs, the purpose he has to press the ball and when he takes it his movement, his link, how is leading the game?

"That is when he is changing the rest, not when he is static and then he puts the ball in the net. I prefer this Auba."

Arteta evidently feels the same about fellow forward Alexandre Lacazette, who is providing strong leadership despite having to deal with a reduced role in the team.

"For me it is a click," he added. "It is a combination that realising that his role has to go well beyond that.

"What was good, or very good, two or three years ago, with his role in this team, at this club, it is not enough. He had to take a step forward.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

"I would say the same with Laca. Look what he is transmitting, not just doing or playing, what he is transmitting. For me that is really, really important.

"They lead by example and not only there but as well at the training ground. Certain things, a role they could have had three years ago in the squad, now it has changed.

"Human beings change themselves every six months, they have all new selves and it's incredible so we are able to adapt very quickly and manipulate and change our minds very quickly as well.

"They are doing that for the benefit of the club, but for sure, for the benefit of themselves.

"Leading is not telling someone what he needs to do, for me it is being able to transform that person and not just with words, but with facts as well."

Martinelli must grab rare chance to shine

18:00 , George Flood

The Carabao Cup is traditionally a competition for young and fringe players to seize their moment to shine — and Gabriel Martinelli will be hoping to do just that on Tuesday night, writes Simon Collings.

After winning Olympic gold with Brazil in the summer, the 20-year-old’s season is still yet to really get going. Martinelli started the opening two Premier League games of the season, largely because Arsenal’s squad was hit by a Covid-19 outbreak, but since then his opportunities have been limited.

An abundance of attacking options and a lack of European football are partly to blame for that. Since Martinelli joined the club in 2019, Emile Smith Rowe has burst onto the scene, while Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe can also play out on the left flank.

It has left Martinelli fighting for minutes and it is why tonight’s fourth-round tie is perhaps bigger for the Brazilian than many others in the Arsenal squad. When chances are few and far between, you have to make sure you take them.

Arsenal head into this match looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight games and, after a miserable start to the season, there is a sense this team could be going somewhere under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal vs Leeds prediction

17:54 , George Flood

Having two teams largely made up of fringe players adds a layer of the unexpected but Leeds have struggled in cup competitions under Bielsa and Arsenal should have the talent to see out the job in front of their home fans.

Arsenal win, 2-0.

Leeds team news: Raphinha a huge doubt

17:54 , George Flood

Leeds are likely to be without Raphinha tonight due to an injury sustained by the Brazilian in Saturday’s last-gasp draw with Wolves at Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and Robin Koch are also still sidelined, along with summer signing Junior Firpo.

Expect plenty of changes from Bielsa also.

Arsenal team news: Arteta to ring changes

17:49 , George Flood

Both managers are set to rotate their usual teams tonight.

Bernd Leno could come in between the sticks for Arsenal with Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Pablo Mari set to join Nuno Tavares in defence.

The Portuguese youngster should keep his place having replaced the injured Kieran Tierney (ankle) last week, with Tierney still out.

In midfield, there could be starts for Mohamed Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, behind Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah in attack. Granit Xhaka remains out (knee).

Arsenal likely XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Cedric, Holding, Mari, Tavares; Elneny, Maitland-Niles; Pepe, Odegaard, Martinelli; Nketiah.
