Arsenal Women begin Champions League campaign against Serie A runners-up Fiorentina
Arsenal Women will begin their first Champions League campaign in five-and-a-half years against Serie A runners-up Fiorentina, while last season’s Champions League runners-up Barcelona will play Juventus in the last-32 of the Women’s Champions League.
Manchester City will play Swiss side Lugano, and reigning Division 1 Feminine winners Lyon, who have won the Champions League title in each of the past four seasons, will begin their defence against Russian side Ryazan-VDV.
Hibernian will play SK Slavia Praha and Scottish champions Glasgow City will play Chertanovo - the first time two Scottish sides have made the knockout stages.
Lyon - whose squad is home to England players Lucy Bronze, Nikita Parris, Alex Greenwood and Izzy Christiansen, and the first-ever winner of the Women’s Ballon D’or, Ada Hegerberg - are again favourites to win the competition, the final of which takes place in Vienna on May 24, 2020.
Arsenal are the only British women's club side to have won a major European title, winning the Champions League in 2007 as they secured a quadruple of trophies. They lost 5-1 to Barcelona in a pre-season friendly earlier this week and, unseeded, will host the Italians in the first leg. Manchester City were knocked out of the competition at the first hurdle by Atletico Madrid last season but made the semi-finals in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Chelsea reached last season's Champions League semi-finals but fell to eventual winners Lyon. Their third-place finish in the WSL last term meant that did not qualify for this campaign.
Last-32 ties will be played over two legs in September, with the first legs on 11-12 September and the second legs on 25-26 September.
