Arsenal are working on new pre-season plans after cancelling their tour to the United States.

The Gunners had been due to fly to the United States today to take part in the Florida Cup with Inter Milan, Everton and Millonarios, but pulled the plug on the trip after positive Covid-19 cases in their 80-man tour party.

The travelling party took PCR tests on Monday, as well lateral flow tests on Tuesday, which revealed a small number had tested positive for coronavirus.

Those in question are all asymptomatic and, per Government guidelines, are now self-isolating.

Those unaffected will continue to train at Arsenal’s training base at London Colney as the club look for new plans to continue their preperations for the new season.

Arsenal had been due to face Inter on Sunday before playing the winner of Everton’s game against Millonarios on July 28.

They want to replace the two fixtures they have missed out on and are likely to be play friendlies behind closed doors, given the short time in which to arrange games.

Now pre-season has begun, Arsenal are following Premier League protocols around social-distancing, which means players avoid close contact unless on the training pitches at London Colney. That has helped keep the number of those self-isolating to a minimum.
