Arson inquiry: Man taken to hospital after blaze in fish and chip shop

A man was taken to hospital after a deliberate fire at a fish and chip shop.

Emergency services were called to the Blue Dolphin Fish bar in High Street, Hastings, in the early hours of Friday.

Firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze.

The man, 38, who is from the area, was taken to hospital for treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation. He has since been discharged.

The fire is being treated as arson and police are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Inspector Sophie McGarel said: “We are investigating this incident and are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone in the area overnight from Thursday, May 25 into Friday, May 26.

“If you saw something suspicious in the area of the High Street or seafront, or if you have information, then please report it to us.”
