New Zealand Warriors have signed former Gold Coast Titans half-back Ash Taylor on a one-year contract for the 2022 NRL season.

The 26-year-old initially linked up with the Warriors on a train and trial deal in October with a top 30 option for 2022. The Warriors have now upgraded Taylor to a full-time NRL contract for the upcoming season.

Warriors general manager of football Craig Hodges said: “We’re excited to confirm Ash is staying with us.

“He has been a great addition since joining the club and has more than met our expectations.

“He has added so much with his training ethic, enthusiasm and his all-round contribution.”

Warriors captain Tohu Harris said: “Ash has fitted in well with our group and we we’re really enjoying having him around.

“He has given us an experienced voice and has added to the competition in our halves.”

Taylor made solitary NRL appearance for Brisbane Broncos before joining rivals Gold Coast in 2016. He scored 18 tries and kicked 130 goals in 114 appearances in six seasons at the Titans. He has also represented the Indigenous All Stars.

Former St Helens centre Kevin Naiqama is enjoying his return to the NRL with the Sydney Roosters.

The Fiji captain returned to Australia during the off-season with the Roosters, signing on a one-year deal. The three-time Super League Grand Final winner announced his retirement following St Helens’ 12-10 victory over Catalans.

However, he signed with Trent Robinson’s side in December for the upcoming 2022 campaign.

“It’s been amazing to be honest, they’re awesome blokes,” he told the Sydney Roosters club website.

“The boys have been really welcoming which has made that transition really easy for myself. I’m still getting to know the squad but from the players to the coaching staff, everyone has been really welcoming.

“I’ve just been enjoying my time here so far. I’m also keen to spend more time with the boys and to get to know them a bit more as well. All my career, I’ve played against them so it’s been great to get to know those boys and train with them.

“I know I’m a bit older but I feel like I’m learning from all the young boys as well. It’s been great training with them and to develop relationships and build those connections with those boys.

“For me it makes me feel really welcomed and part of the team.”
