Assassin's Creed Mirage has stepped out of the shadows, confirming its release date while showing off its first gameplay footage.

The first game in the series since 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla (which had a fair amount of DLC expansions, to be fair), Mirage actually follows the character Basim from that game and transports the action to the Middle East.

While the story is linked to arguably the most RPG-heavy entry in the series, we're actually going back to basics here: the sitting on benches, eavesdropping and pickpocketing harken back from the original games and its first couple of follow-ups. Basim's mate in the trailer tells him that he can also bribe the guards, another classic AC staple.

There's also parkour, lots and lots of parkour.

While the focus is definitely being put back into the stealth, to the point where it doesn't even look like the bow is coming back, we get a glimpse of the combat for when you inevitably get caught.

The game will be coming out later this year on October 12 on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Unfortunately, it looks like the game is skipping Steam (for now, at least) as recent Ubisoft games have tended to do.

Pre-orders are live now and it's interesting to see that the RRP for the standard edition is only £44.99, while the Deluxe Edition with Prince of Persia-inspired content has an RRP of £49.99. In a world where big-name releases carry an RRP of £60-70, it's good to see.

Of course, physical pre-orders are even cheaper if you know where to look. TheGameCollection has got the PS5, PS4 (with free PS5 upgrade), and Xbox versions all for £37.95, with a healthy reward points system too.

Assassin's Creed Mirage will be released on October 12. All pre-orders come with the 'Forty Nights' mission.
