Aston Villa vs Manchester United, Premier League preview: Prediction, kick-off time, team news, TV, live stream, h2h, odds

Manchester United are seeking their fourth straight Premier League win as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side take on Aston Villa tonight.

Champions League football is on the horizon as it stands for fifth-placed United given Man City's Uefa ban (pending an appeal), though Solskjaer can close to within two points of third-placed Chelsea with another victory.

But United will have to be wary of Dean Smith's Villa given the threat of relegation that hangs over the Midlands club, with the Villans in dire need of points as the seasons enters its final stages.

Date, time and venue

Aston Villa vs Manchester United is scheduled for a kick-off time of 8:15pm BST at Villa Park on Thursday, July 9, 2020

Team news

Aston Villa: Tyrone Mings and Jack Grealish are both fit. Mings took a knock to his calf in Sunday's defeat at Liverpool while Grealish was struggling with tight calves, primarily caused by tight strapping, but the pair will be involved on Thursday.

Matt Targett is still out with a hamstring injury, while goalkeeper Tom Heaton and striker Wesley (both knee) are long-term absentees.

Aston Villa provisional squad: Reina, Nyland, Steer, Guilbert, Konsa, Mings, Taylor, Elmohamady, Luiz, Nakamba, Grealish, McGinn, Trezeguet, El Ghazi, Hourihane, Jota, Lansbury, Samatta, Vassilev, Davis.

Man Utd: Victor Lindelof is a doubt. The Sweden international picked up a back complaint during the first half against Bournemouth last weekend, with Eric Bailly brought replacing the centre-back at half-time.

Fellow defender Axel Tuanzebe is set to miss the rest of the season through injury, while fellow defender Phil Jones remains out with an issue of his own.

Man utd provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Grant, Bishop, Dalot, Fosu-Mensah, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Lindelof, Mengi, Laird, Maguire, Shaw, Williams, Pogba, Matic, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Pereira, Lingard, Garner, Mata, Chong, James, Ighalo, Greenwood, Martial, Rashford.

Prediction: Aston Villa 1-3 Manchester United

United's attack has been impressive of late, but a free-scoring front line deflected from weaknesses at the back against Bournemouth.

If Villa take the game to United, they could expose those flaws again - but they will leave themselves open to counter-attacks. Expect Villa to sit deep at first, but United should collect three points.

How to watch

TV channel: The match will be shown live on Sky Sports' Premier League and Main Event channels, and is available via Now TV with a day pass for £9.99, or a three-month pass on offer for £25.
