Leicester City have reportedly emerged as contenders for Atalanta playmaker Ruslan Malinovskyi, who remains a major target for both Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.
The Ukraine international has become an option for both Spurs and Forest over recent weeks, as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his attacking options after a return to Champions League football, while Steve Cooper is seemingly rebuilding his whole squad at the City Ground.
It had looked as if Malinovskyi was bound for French outfit Marseille. However, the two clubs were well apart in their valuation of the 29-year-old and a proposed move collapsed.
That has prompted Premier League clubs to up the ante ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.
And one club who are looking to do late business is the Foxes after they recouped an initial £70million from the sale of Wesley Fofana to Chelsea.
Leicester are yet to spend a penny on any news signings this summer. However, they are trying to make up for lost time in the final hours of the window. That is where the link to Malinovskyi comes in, according to Calciomercato.
Indeed, the Foxes are also currently in talks with another Atalanta player in Jeremie Boga.
Tottenham appear to remain the box seat for the player though, given his preference to head to London.
Spurs enquired about Malinovskyi when Atalanta make an approach for Sergio Reguilon weeks ago.
The left-back has since joined Atletico Madrid on loan, but Tottenham’s interest in Malinovskyi remains solid.
Malinovskyi gives Tottenham something different
The Ukrainian would fill a role in Conte’s squad that is not really utilised very much.
A natural N0.10 is not a position that the Italian usually finds room for in his 3-4-3 formation.
His arrival would, however, enable Conte the option to change things up and provide a better link between midfield and attack.
That is something that has been missing in the wins over Wolves and Nottingham Forest and the draw at Chelsea.
As for Forest’s interest, Cooper has been undertaking a major overhaul of his squad following their promotion.
The City Ground outfit have already signed a remarkable 18 players this summer. And more could be on the way before the window shuts.
However, it would appear that Malinovskyi is more likely to head to London over Nottingham or Leicester – if he does leave Atalanta.
