Athletics ace Sonny Gray activated from DL, will make season debut Tuesday

Gray was supposed to be in pinstripes by Friday, but it now appears a trade of the right-handed pitcher is coming down to Monday's deadline.

The Athletics activated ace Sonny Gray from the 10-day disabled list Monday. He will make his season debut Tuesday against the Twins in Minnesota.

Gray, 27, began the season on the DL with a lat strain. He was impressive in two rehab starts, tossing 11 scoreless innings with a 13/0 K/BB ratio between High-A Stockton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Outfielder Ryan LaMarre optioned to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy baseball owners should feel comfortable picking up Gray off their waiver wire. Despite his injury history, and poor 5.69 ERA last seson, Gray was an All-Star in 2015 when he went 14-7 wth a 2.73 ERA.

Should Gray revert back to his blistering pre-2016 form, he could be one of the steals of this year's fantasy baseball season. He is currently owned in just 67 percent of Yahoo leagues.

If you were one of the unfortunate Noah Syndergaard owners struck with his bad news Monday morning, Gray would be an ideal replacement both in the short term, and possibly the long term.
