The first notion that the Stratford venue could hold concerts arose at the turn of the year with it now being confirmed that the two festivals will take place there in July.
That will coincide with the first anniversary of the London 2012 Olympics and sees both Wireless and Hard Rock Calling move from Hyde Park where complaints over noise were rife.
However the Olympic Stadium could return as an athletics venue, also in the summer, after Dennis Hone, chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation dropped a huge hint.
Talking to BBC Radio 5 Live Hone said: "We are talking about bringing in sporting events this summer as well, we're just not in a position to make announcements on them just yet.
"We've been looking at the stadium and how we'd bring it back into use. We're in the middle of discussions with West Ham United about how they can take occupation of the stadium and how the stadium would need to be reconfigured on a football basis.
"In the meantime we have this window of opportunity in summer 2013 to bring it back into use and that's exactly what we want to do."
