ATP Finals to leave London for Turin in 2021
The ATP finals will leave London in 2020 as the ATP named Turin as the new host for their end of year tournament.
The Italian city beat Manchester, Singapore and Tokyo who also featured on the shortlist.
Since 2009, the event which features the top 8 singles players and doubles teams over the course of the year, had been staged at London’s O2 arena.
It will now move to the Pala Alpitour stadium, Italy’s largest indoor sporting arena.
It’s the first time the ATP Finals will be hosted in Italy, however it hosts one of the biggest clay court events on the ATP and WTA calendar, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, with the ATP Next Gen finals also taking place in Milan.
World number one Novak Djokovic said he was “excited” about the move to Turin and hoped to be a part of what he called a “very special event”.
The event has been incredibly successful in London with sell out crowds coming to watch the action.
The Pala Alpitour has a capacity of up to 16,000 and hopes to match the set up and resulting crowds of the O2. It’s not clear whether they will echo the format that saw London bring in around 35,000 fans on most days.
The WTA have also moved their end of year event, with the WTA Finals moving to China and Shenzhen in 2019 after 5 years in Singapore.
