Aviva Premiership talking points

Team of the weekend – Exeter Chiefs – Considering how new they are to the division, they have had a meteoric rise and deserve all of their plaudits.

Player of the weekend – Charles Piutau – This guy is one fire and is one hell of a short term signing for Wasps

Bath back on track.. just

Bath were back to winning ways on Friday night with a 21-19 victory over Newcastle Falcons. Although they did well to win, it was far from convinvcing. Their indiscipline remains to be an issue in big moments in the match causing them to conceed vital points. Newcastle look a revived team who should have enough to stay up now, unless their form drastically dips.

Wasps still stinging

Wasps continued their impressive form with a convincing victory over Sale Sharks 39-12. Even with a depleted side they have kicked on during this six nations, they owe a lot to the Piutau brothers but their style of play is so easy on the eye and a joy to watch. Sale’s good form comes to an end, they have a tough run in of fixtures.

Leicester’s tribute to Seru Rabeni

After a tough week for the Tigers they produced a great performance in response to the awful news of the Seru Rabeni passing. Leicester cannot be counted out of the top four whilst Saracens form has dropped in this international period.

Luck of the Irish

London Irish pulled out a 23-18 St Patrick’s day victory over Gloucester which is a vital win in their quest for Premiership survival. Gloucester who have looked promising at home all season will never be a top four side until they can consistently win on the road, especially those at the bottom of the table. Irish have 6 games left to survive, but the odds are certainly against them.

Chiefs banging their drum at the top

In light of Saracens losing, Exeter now have top spot in the Premiership. They have been excellent all season and fully deserve it and are real contenders for the title. Northampton will feel aggrieved they didn’t get anything from the game as they were in contention for so long. The fight for the top four is really heating up.

Worcester causing controversy

A controversial try gave Worcester victory over Harlequins at the stoop. Three wins on the bounce means now they are surely safe from relegation while Harlequins have been really hit hard by this international break.
