Fernando Llorente reckons Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world after watching the Tottenham striker score four times in two games.

Kane netted twice in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Everton and then repeated that feat against Germany’s league leaders Borussia Dortmund as Spurs triumphed 3-1 in Wednesday’s opening Champions League group match.

Summer signing Llorente, who has won the World Cup and European Championship with Spain, said: “I think he’s awesome, one of the best strikers in the world, if not to say the best.

“In front of goal, he’s lethal. The truth is he’s in a sweet moment and we have to make the best of that.

“He gives us so much. He’s an extremely complete player, he doesn’t just score. In every aspect, he’s very complete.”

The former Juventus and Athletic Bilbao forwardd was widely expected to swap Swansea for Chelsea during the summer but, on deadline day, the 32-year-old forward decided to join Tottenham instead.

“I’m very happy because at the end everything came out perfect,” he said. “Tottenham are an amazing club with a wonderful project and I think I fit in very well. I want to put my contribution on it and hopefully I can score many goals to help the club achieve their targets.

“The truth is that Chelsea have been after me for a long time but at the end you know how this works. At the very last minute [Mauricio] Pochettino called me and convinced me. The Tottenham project is impressive.

“It is clear that Pochettino played a very important role in the decision. I have known him since he was playing in Spain.

“There is even a nice anecdote because I made my first-team debut [with Bilbao] against him at San Mamés. He was at the end of his playing career and I was at the beginning of mine.

“Then he was the Espanyol manager and I faced him several more times. Now I play under him at Tottenham and I really want to give my best.”

Llorente missed the start of Swansea’s campaign after breaking his arm while on holiday, falling off his bike, and his 87th-minute introduction against Dortmund this week was his first appearance of the season.

He will hope to feature for a little longer on Saturday as Tottenham host Paul Clement’s Swans – Llorente’s former side – at Wembley.

I’m very happy to have my first minutes, and I couldn’t wait,” added the former Champions League finalist. “It wasn’t an easy pre-season with the injury, but little by little I’m feeling better in myself and looking to find my rhythm.

“For me it’s vital to go building up minutes on the pitch and getting that rhythm necessary to be at the level of the rest of the squad. I really want to do my bit.”
