Backyard hockey rink with LED lights in ice is just hypnotic (Video)

Backyard hockey rinks are a labor of love, from their concept to their construction to the ways puckheads try to personalize them with various bells and whistles.

Shawn Carlon of Maple Grove, Minnesota, decided his rink needed to be a ‘round the clock spectacle. So this backyard ice sheet has LED lighting buried under it, and the results are rather stunning.

Check out this drone footage of Carlon’s colorful creation:

As you can see later in the video, there’s absolutely no reason Carlon couldn’t put up a velvet rope and turn this rink into Maple Grove’s hottest night club. Well, save for the sub-zero-degree temperatures.

(Stefon voice: “Maple Grove’s hottest nightclub is Red Lines. It’s got goons, pee-wees, grinders, muckers and you just keep hitting each other with sticks until you score…”)

The whole thing is rather hypnotic and a great way to bring some NHL pregame lightshow awesomeness to your own backyard without a seven-figure game operations budget.

Also it looks like TRON, and we’re always down for anything that looks like TRON.
