Perhaps the biggest transfer saga of the summer is yet to unfold as the future of Robert Lewandowski remains uncertain.

During the international break in May, the Polish international was clear-cut about his future during a press conference. The 33-year-old told the media: "It is certain that my story with Bayern Munich is over. After what has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further co-operation. "A transfer is the best solution for both parties. Bayern are a serious club and I believe that they will not stop me just because they can." Fast-forward to July and not much has changed. In spite of his comments, the player is expected to return to training on Tuesday, as preparations for the new season officially get underway.

The striker had set his sights on a summer move to Barcelona however Bayern have so far rejected a £34million offer from the Catalonian giants. The Bundesliga champions have made it clear that if a deal is to be struck, they would like £50million up front at the very least. Considering Barcelona's recent financial issues, finding additional money in the budget could prove challenging.

As talks with Barca have stalled, Chelsea and PSG have sprung into action and are expected to challenge the Spaniards for the Pole's signature. According to reports, Lewandowski would be up for a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are in need of a striker following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan. What's more, their hopes of signing Cristiano Ronaldo appear to have cooled following Erik ten Hag's comments stating that the Portugal international is 'not for sale'. Whatever the outcome, one thing is for sure - Lewandowski will have to endure one awkward training session on Tuesday if he does indeed turn up.
