Liverpool are preparing for an overhaul of their midfield in the summer which could see several stars let go at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side haven’t been at their best this season, but their 7-0 hammering of Manchester United served as a reminder of how good they can be.

Liverpool played with a spark and energy that hasn’t always been present this year. Klopp will now be keen on ending the season well and finishing in the top four.

Roberto Firmino’s departure was recently confirmed however, several other stars could follow him out the door. Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Liverpool’s other out-of-contract players.

“There are currently no talks between Liverpool and Naby Keita over new contract and he could be next one to leave on a free, together with Oxlade-Chamberlain,” claimed Romano.

“Arthur Melo, also expected to leave; Liverpool are not planning to trigger the buy option.”

With Keita seemingly not in Klopp’s plans for the future, a shock move to Barcelona could be on the cards. Given their financial situation, Barcelona will be looking into the free-agent market in the summer.

Mundo Deportivo have reported that Barcelona hold a firm interest in the player and they would be interested in signing him as a free agent.

Keita has shown glimpses of his ability at Anfield, but he has often struggled with injuries. This season he has only started in three league matches for Liverpool.

Since joining the club in 2018, he has played a total of 129 games. Along with Barcelona’s interest, his former club RB Leipzig are also keeping tabs on his situation.

Liverpool have midfield rebuild in mind

As Liverpool look to recapture their previous magic, it makes sense that they are willing to let Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita move on in the summer.

Klopp’s side have been linked to several high-profile midfielders and their opportunities would likely be even slimmer next season.

Jude Bellingham remains to be a top target for Liverpool in the summer. The teenager is one of the most in-demand players in Europe and Liverpool will be preparing for a summer bidding war.

Bellingham is contracted with Borussia Dortmund until 2025, but he is expected to make his next move in the summer. A host of other English clubs are interested as well as Real Madrid.

The midfielder has scored 10 goals in all competitions as well as providing five assists during this campaign. There’s no doubt that he would prove to be a popular signing at Anfield.

Liverpool will recognise that they need to sign more than one midfielder though. With the likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson not getting any younger.

Youri Tielemans remains as a player of interest for Liverpool in the summer. He is set to become a free agent in the summer, with his Leicester deal set to expire.

Klopp’s side have done well to refresh their forward line with the signings of Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, but the midfield will be their next priority.
