Barcelona and Manchester United have finally agreed a fee over a deal to send Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford, according to reports.

The two clubs have been locked in negotiations for several weeks but there has reportedly been a breakthrough.

According to multiple reports, including Sky Sports, United have agreed to pay €65m guaranteed plus add-ons.

The report claims that Barcelona and the Red Devils have a “broad agreement” on the fee which is expected to include performance-related bonuses.

Discussions over “finer details” are continuing but the Premier League side are “confident” they will capture Erik ten Hag’s top target.

Meanwhile, personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block.

De Jong played under Ten Hag at Ajax and was a part of the squad that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

This deal was progressing very slowly, however, it would appear United have got their man. Ten Hag was especially keen to get the 25-year-old through the door following the exits of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.

The Sky Sports report was backed up by Sport1 reporter Patrick Berger, who has also revealed that a fee worth €65m plus add-ons has been agreed.

Berger wrote on Twitter on Tuesday morning: “Frenkie de Jong is the desired transfer for Erik ten Hag as new head coach of Manchester United.

“Been told there is an agreement on fee between United and Barca. MUFC set to pay €65m as guaranteed sum + add-ons. Now a solution has to be found on personal terms… ”

On Monday, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the whole package will cost €85m, with an agreement “getting closer”.

Amidst reports that a deal has now been agreed, Romano shared the news that nothing has changed.

There is no update as things stand and new talks will happen at some point this week, possibly as early as Tuesday.

De Jong played 46 times across all competitions for Barcelona last season, scoring four and assisting five for the La Liga side.
