Barcelona have missed out on the signings of Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia on transfer deadline day.

Coach Ronald Koeman revealed on Saturday that the Catalan club were working on a deal to sign centre-back Garcia from Manchester City and told Dutch TV earlier on Monday that he hoped Depay would join from Lyon.

However, Barca were ultimately unable to complete either transfer after French forward Ousmane Dembele rejected a move to Manchester United.

A deal to bring in Depay was all agreed for around €25million, but was dependent on Dembele leaving the club and the 23-year-old preferred to stay and fight for his place.

Barca had wanted to sell the winger and were only willing to loan on the condition that he extended his contract by one more year until 2023, but his refusal means the Catalan club will have to wait at least until January to sign Depay and Garcia.

Both players are out of contract at the end of next season and could be available for lower fees in three months' time, but Barcelona may still struggle to fund the transfers after announcing €97m losses for the 2019-20 campaign on Monday.

Meanwhile, midfielder Rafinha has left Barca to join Paris Saint-Germain in a deal which initially cost nothing but could bring the Catalan club €3m in variables.

Centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo also departs after agreeing to sign for Benfica on a two-year loan, for which Barca will receive a €2m fee.
