It is now no longer in doubt that Raphinha will be able to join Barcelona from Leeds United after Fabrizio Romano revealed a bid is set to be accepted.

Raphinha has been holding out for a transfer from Leeds to Barcelona this summer after two seasons at Elland Road. Indeed, Leeds have also accepted a bid from Chelsea, but the winger has been waiting for his dream move to La Liga instead.

Barcelona’s delicate financial situation has cast doubt on their chances to structure a deal to Leeds’ liking. However, optimism has been growing around Camp Nou that they can get their man.

Even though Ousmane Dembele is due to extend his contract, Barcelona are on the verge of adding Raphinha to their squad. That said, a report earlier on Tuesday revealed Leeds were yet to accept their latest bid.

The situation is about to unravel, though. According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds are “poised to accept” Barcelona’s latest offer for the Brazil international.

Writing for The Guardian, the trustworthy transfer reporter reveals Raphinha is “close” to getting his desired move.

Barcelona have bid €58million (£49.1m) for the winger’s services. Add-ons could take the total fee up to €68m (£57.6m).

Romano notes that Leeds are likely to accept this offer, even though the initial package is lower than Chelsea’s £55m attempt. There is a warning that Barcelona may have to wait to register him after he signs, though. Even so, the move is now “not considered in doubt”.

Leeds, of course, have already signed Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord with a view to replacing Raphinha. They have been preparing for Raphinha’s departure – leaving him out of their pre-season tour of Australia – and it could materialise soon.

Raphinha ready for big step up from Leeds to Barcelona

After holding out for Barcelona for so long – and leaving other, big enough suitors waiting – it will now be up to Raphinha to show it was worth it.

They will undoubtedly be the biggest club he has ever played for if he signs. He has played at a decent standard, but has no Champions League experience.

Therefore, to reward Barcelona’s faith, he will have to prove he is capable of the step up.

In fairness, his transition from Rennes – his last club of European stature – to Leeds was easy enough. Hence, he would be backing himself to make an impact in a star-studded squad.

With 17 goals from 67 Leeds games behind him, it could soon be time for a new chapter for the 25-year-old.

No other player has ever gone directly from Leeds to Barcelona. Therefore, Raphinha will be setting his own course – and hoping to make it a success.
